    The GM 5.0 and 5.7 (merc 260) are the same size. Whether there are other differences in years that would impact you I don't know

    The carbs on these need to be disassembled and put in carb cleaner overnight. All passageways need to be clear.

    Glad you got it going. Muffs might be hard to find for that, which is why I use a tub or barrel. Chances are the carb will need to be dismantled and cleaned.

    The spec for that condenser .24μF (microfarad) If you can find one close to that and get it to fit, it should work.

    For what it's worth, I know a few people who have bought the 115hp-150hp merc 4strokes in the last 10 years and not had any issues with them. These are not high hour users. Just seasonal.

    Gap should be .012" - .016" How did you check for spark? If you used some sort of spark tester that probably won't work. You have to make sure the plug is well grounded and check for spark across the electrodes in a dark place. If you have a multimeter you can test the condensor. This test...

    It also could be the neutral safety switch or the stop button that's causing trouble.

    Did you take the top cover off the grey pulley (if possible) to see if there's points under it?

    Are you sure the drive is able to trim in all the way towards the transom? Also, your prop, speed and rpm numbers seem odd. With a 15" pitch prop you should be over revving by a lot at WOT. A 14.25" x 21 or a 14.5" x 19 should work well for that boat.

    It's possible that if it had points there might be a window on top of the grey pulley to access them. But maybe not.

    The CDI coil looks like that. I don't know what the points version would look like. If there are points they would be under the grey pulley. Check for spark in dark place first. Both plugs fire at the same time.

    Spark on these motors is very hard to see. I usually turn all the lights out in the garage or put a cover of some sort over the motor when testing for spark. Is the ignition a points type or CDI? If points, you might want to clean them. I believe they're under a cover on the small pulley.

    That could just be the result of condensation. Have you tried to run it to see if water leaks anywhere or the oil gets contaminated?
