    If the gauge is stuck butt you can still trim up and down, that is electrical, either a bad connection, or a failed component such as the sender or the gauge Use the trouble shooting steps in the manual

    No, the module just triggers the relay at 7 degrees up and converts the output to a simple ratio for a gauge If you look, you can even find NOS modules and gauges. I did for my Square AQ290DP trim gauge

    actually, gaps got bigger to ignite leaner mixes to pass emissions. combustion chamber design and shape determines speed of flame propagation needed. that in turn determines which gap is needed to balance nox, power, detonation based on fuel BTU, compression ratio, etc.

    what is your timing at 3000 RPM. should be 20 + base timing or 22 + base timing or 24+ base timing (depending on which module) if that is working, then its simply fuel related. or more importanly..... Lack of fuel. test the fuel pressure.
