    4.3 MerCruiser Starter Problems

I use a spare battery I keep in the garage and a momentary switch (remote starter switch) to test starters. Be careful because the torque reaction will cause it to jump a bit as it cranks. The previous owner created quite problem for you there. I don't think that can be fixed without replacing...

5.0Gi overheats at idle, but fine at 2000 rpm

running temps...usually 160 except right after coming off plane then it rises to approx 170 then comes back down to 160....

95 omc 5.8 runs cool without thermostat but eventually overheats with the thermostat

great outcome! Here's what mine runs at....160 at idle, most it goes to is about 170 after coming off plane....

Exhaust Manifold too hot to touch

don't forget to check the little by pass opening in the OMC/Volvo thermostat housing... at idle you should be barely warm (90-100) after coming off plane 125-130 or so. I have the exact same exhaust on my OMC and that's what I get consistently.

    Cobra drive cooling problem

OK keep in mind that the Cobra impeller is in the upper gear housing, about 18" above the level of the water intakes there is no way on earth it will prime in a bucket, garbage can, etc. That will only work with outboards were you can submerge the lower unit BELOW the level of the impeller...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI-G Riser problem.

about the only thing left is the cooling passages inside the manifold and elbow (what you're calling the riser is actually an elbow) you might have to drain the water out of the manifold and remove the elbow and see what it looks like. Here's what a VP style manifold looks when new....you may be...

Looking for bare engine block with pistons

hope you can see this the dimension is 7 13/64" or 18.3cm, measured from the top of the shift rod head to the drive housing surface (where the water passage cover is bolted on to.. PS I had mine set up at a shop back in 2004, because I was having shifting problems like it would not come out of...

Looking for bare engine block with pistons

Excellent work looks great! Probably the most immaculate Cobra install I've ever seen! I did get my boat in, I was held up a bit waiting to get the bottom paint done but will start using it soon! Today my son and I replaced a faulty rear door window regulator on our old '98 Jeep. Not the easiest...

    Mercruiser 1987 260/5.7 thermostat/water priming before startup

Agreed the problem with running an outdrive in a drum is that it can’t go up high enough to fully submerge the impeller and keep it from sucking in air. Also your exhaust water is heating the water in the drum as well. Get a marine thermostat 140 if in salt water 160 if in fresh water and use...

merc 260 q-jet fuel drips from boosters

I had this on mine (nozzle drip) and it was just as Kenny said. I soaked it well and used a real compressor not canned air to blow out the idle air tubes. You can run it that way though, it won't really hurt anything. If you have an original un-molested Marine Q-Jet DO NOT exchange it for a...

In Water Storage-What do I need to watch for

Also get in habit of checking it weekly if you don't live right where its stored in the water. I've done this for 15+ years in salt water on a rotating mooring in Long Island NY. Overall I have not had big problems, in salt water obviously you have to maintain your zincs (although mine always...

Volvo penta 7.4gi loss of top speed perhaps tied to slight thermostat overheating?

but did you test it? a 160 stat should start to open at 155-160 and be fully open by approx 165 you should use a radiator thermometer to verify and measure how far it opens, if it opens too late or not far enough you can have running too hot issues as Ronald Reagan once said trust but verify...

replace oil filter on VP 5.0 GI PEFS

nice visual all dodge, I have the same thing painted on my fuel filter mount! I wouldn't dig at the seal because then the filter mount might not seal. What I would try is getting a cap wrench that fits the filter exactly, or any number of other specialty oil filters. And keep in mind that the...

    1987 Omc Exhaust 4.3

Barr OMC/Volvo V-6 center exit manifold/elbow kit can't post link but there are a number of vendors who sell them, I got mine from Lighthouse Marine in Riverhead Long Island...approx $720 or so...good aftermarket.... although it says fits 89 and up, it will fit the earlier models... The this...

    Hot air choke help

keep the points you will have less trouble with making the ESA work for the Cobra outdrive. I still have them in mine. my old heads were cracked from a previous overheat and you could not see the cracks until the machine shop pointed them out to me. While they did not leak water into the cyls...
