    I think BRP uses US size 5/32 Allen on OEM ...but I have managed to strip them. boils down to preferences I guess.

    backtrack a bit.... how did all this start suddenly ? any chance fuel is inadequate (contaminated) for some reason ? any chance the VRO is not working properly, is it getting good pulses from the crankcase to work under load at higher RPMS . smokes a lot ...oilsmoke ( bad mixing) or...

    me.... I prefer slotted because hex heads are easy to strip... never went back to hex heads Trying to remove s tripped he head is a real pia.

    glad to help... saddly you are now addicted to repairing oldies....we all started with one and they keep showing up. Great hobby ....I fix them up with basic carb, ignition, gear oil and impeller and resell them at cost . keeps me busy in the winter :-) . it is a 25hp now find a small kicker...

    I never went so far as to do rings on an oldy but have you looked into alternatives such as an engine cleaner like Merc POWER TUNE and BRP equivatents, pulled the cyl head to check/confirm excessive wear, checked the rings condition by openning the side bypass covers, ??

    round white washers (seals) that fit the bolt... not rubber... more like white nylon plastic... very common outboard part don't use hardware store stuff because the plastic material is much harder
