    confused about transom thickness overall.

    fiberglass boats 2-1/4" thick. aluminum boats - 2.0 to 2-1/4" which is the thickness of 1-1/2" wood and the skins. if you are replacing the transom wood with aluminum tubing, make sure you fully understand transom loading and how it transfers from the prop to the boat.
