    we used to need to cut ice with a chain saw to get the boat launched for opening weekend of perch fishing in Ishpeming. it was in the teens many times. you will be fine. pull the boat, make sure to tilt down. and flush your livewell lines with RV antifreeze (dont ask why I say this)

    pull yours apart and look at the gears. may not need anything except a re-seal and paint.

    the gear ratio is determined by the gears in the bottom. same gear box used in the upper on the 270/280/290 regardless of 4 banger, V6, V8, DIESEL or big block you may want to verify the 2.3:1 ratio. the available ratios were 1.78:1 (big block 740A and B) the 1.95:1 on the small blocks and...

    there are many electric boats that have a 6-10 knot max speed and will tool along for coctail cruises on a charge. however as you mentioned. would have to live on a lake. my situation with the river and the ICW, its not an option.

    yes, if you are bored and have the tools not much of a gain with a stock bump-stick and 5000 RPM limit on vortec heads, blend the intake bowls and runners, leaving the passages rough (carbide only) while tapering around the valve guide boss the exhaust should be bowl blended and port matched...

    thats a stringer gear case, and if the paint is factory white, its a 1978-1981 hydro-mechanical shift the 1982 to 1985 mechanical cases were silver
