when you ran aground, you plugged the oil cooler which is before the raw water pump. so you starved your motor of cooling water
then in turn, you overheated the motor by running. pistons got really hot and expanded, seizing the motor
your motor was much hotter than 250
I bet the over-temp...
the muffs cover the intake holes and force water up to the impeller
however if you dont have the hose on full, you can burn the impeller
the water should be spraying out from around the muffs until you start the motor
i wouldnt bother doing them wet
however if you really want to, just a brief spritz of WD40 is all that is needed
new motor has 150 psi on each cylinder
good motor has about 140 psi on each cylinder
worn motor would be 120-130 psi on each cylinder
bad motor would be 100 psi or less
if you...
no, different generations of drives, transom shields and motors
your 1996 Searay should have a Gen VI motor with a post 1992 Bravo
your 1989 Maxum may be an alpha drive, the motor is a Mk 4, and the drive/transom shield, etc. are pre 1992
you didnt answer the question.
if you attempt to put the outdrive in a bucket, the bucket has to be big enough to get the whole boat in it to submerge the raw water pump far enough for it to prime. not just cover the intake, however get the watter above the pump
otherwise you simply burn up...
welcome aboard
if you have a bravo, you could swap to a complete BBC bobtail
you also need the y-pipes from a big block as the motor is about 4" wider than the small block
or you can also go to a 6.2 liter long block and just swap the 377 for the 350 which would be the easiest
original distributor would be points distributor.
hence the purple resistor wire from the run feed and the purple/yellow wire going to the I/R terminal on the starter for the start feed.
so what ignition system do you really have?
Sorry to hear about the passing of your husband.
Agree with Brian, pics would be needed at a minimum
