    if its grinding, something is wrong. could be PDS shaft, most likely its u-joints and upper gear box pull it before you end up spending many many thousands in repair.

    most likely exhaust manifold is rusted thru and leaking into center cylinders, or you blew the head gasket. do you boat in salt water? time to do a leak down test, then start fixing.
