    Will it Freez

Not if you leave the motor lowered. Only if you tip it up can water pool in the lower and then freeze

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

points ignition and carb used to be part of IC engines 101. they quit teaching that about 4 years ago. todays "ASE certified mechanics" learn less in year one than a 1985 high school kid in Autos class.

New to boating, new to Mercruiser 3.0 some questions

the raw water pump came on the engine from GM. its a GM marine pump that fits the 153 (2.5 liter), 181 (3.0 liter) or the 250 cubic inch (4.1 liter) make sure to service your points come spring.

1997 4.3GS with Holley 4 barrel with flat spot on acceleration at 3500 rpm

2 barrel or 4 barrel? or 2300 or 4150/4160? you payed way too much for a $35 holley rebuild kit replace with same power valve that was in there. soak the main body and the metering block(s) in carb cleaner, then chase each passage with a fine wire or fishing line, then blow out with spray can...

Anything I could do to prevent rusting of internal surfaces?

first, you are over thinking it. no value in putting a plastic bag over the carb, the whole intake will be off to get to the heads..... drain the gas from the carb and forgetaboutit until you bolt it back on. if you wait more than 6 months, you may need to address the carb with a gasket set...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

the 4 barrel will give you about 15 more HP. adding a carb spacer between the 4-barrel and the manifold will help with mid-range. dropping to a 17P and letting the motor sing on the high end will help with a boat load of people

help with running surge brake lines

its to allow you to easily bleed the system and to allow for expansion to 2 axles. if you want to skip the first Tee and plug, you can do so.

Bravo 3 Sea Water Pump - What's this?

if there was a trophy for hypercomplexifying a cooling system, Keith and the crew at Mercruiser would win it.

    Stringer repair

you are currently in the tedious small project phase.....to those of us that have been there, great job...... to those that dont understand the level of resto-modifications, the OP is building stuff you cant buy......

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

depends on the boat, however if you want to go big on power, buy a different boat. here is my engine build for the replacement of the warmed over 271C https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bbc-build-dont-tell-the-admiral.666775/ BTW, here is my warm over of the...

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

5k USD for a new to you motor with a heat exchanger and new exhaust manifolds is possibly doable if you were in the US if you can find a good running 1996 or newer GM truck motor, you can save yourself the cost of blocks and heads GMPP block ~ $800 GM vortec heads ~800 a pair modifications to...

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

if you buy it, there is well over $1500 difference. if you build it yourself, there is about $300 difference

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

first, please understand torque is what makes the boat go. HP is just a function of torque and RPM lets break down the 271C its a generic 5.7 short block with small chamber (64cc) police package / performance crate motor heads and a 715CFM vacuum secondary 4-barrel carb hence the 271-275hp...

980 hours on engines - compression test

yes, 80 grit on the intake, 200 grit in the combustion chamber and as smooth as possible in the exhausts. be careful shipfitters disease does not kick in.... otherwise while the engines are out you may go to stroker cranks, build a pair of 496's

2001 mercruiser 305 alpha drive to couple year older 350 engine

BTW, with the motor that old, it probably has 76cc smog heads on it, so its power at most would be about 210hp. which is less than the 5.0 you pulled out of the boat.

2001 mercruiser 305 alpha drive to couple year older 350 engine

yes, the balance on the flywheel is more critical than you think. are the valve cover bolts perimeter bolts or center bolts? post the block casting number and we can narrow you down to see if the motor is at least only 40 years old

    How many gallons of resin?

the last thing to rot in a boat is the floor, the first thing is the transom and stringers. from the looks of the pic, you are not done with demolition. for a 19' boat, minimum amount of resin for transom stringers and floor would be in the 15-20 gallon range.
