Merc Alpha One trim/tilt Q (feeling like a newby)

The Bayliner support page has a link for my year & model but it turns out to be a supplement. The supplement says to refer to the Owner's Manual for complete information. I regularly buy old stuff and normally have had success locating SOMETHING. Bayliner never published a digital manual, or...

Merc Alpha One trim/tilt Q (feeling like a newby)

He bought the boat this year from a dealer... All this was done and the bellows replaced. I can still see thru the oil on the dipstick. Seller decided a pontoon was more his speed.

Merc Alpha One trim/tilt Q (feeling like a newby)

This boat that followed me home yesterday came with no manual, and so far I haven't found one to download... So I'm asking from ignorance, not stupidity. Lol My dock sits in shallow water. When motoring in to dock I need to trim all the way up to keep from dragging the prop. Once tied up I then...

Is it also typical of an I/O powered sport boat to constantly need correction when idling along in gear? It just refuses to go straight. Feels like an old pickup truck with worn out tie rod ends.

I need to check the idle rpm with my digital timing light. The analog gauge has no resolution at idle. Could be 600, could be 800. Sounds like low rpm, tho. Deep & throaty.

...because I'm lacking. I just bought a used 18-foot Bayliner Capri with 4.3L I/O. It does FAST pretty well, SLOW isn't in its repertoire. Docking and loading on the trailer are a real challenge when it lurches every time it's put into gear. Give me some tips. Nearly all my boating has been on...

    Bunk slides

Bare wood against the hull? Doesn't seem like a good idea. This lift is several years old & is nearly worn out from nothing more than (its) lifetime of being jostled by wind & waves. The same activity that will be wearing on the hull of a boat or jet ski.

    Bunk slides

Beats me. More to protect the machine, I imagine. If it's useless I wonder why they all are covered. Some new lifts advertise poly bunk boards that never rot.

    Bunk slides

I've seen poly rails screwed to wooden bunk boards on boat trailers but I'm looking for narrower strips to cover the narrow edge of 2x4s on my PWC lift. A u-shaped cap would be preferred to a solid strip, so I don't need to put screws through the face of the plastic. Does such a thing exist?

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

No issues at all this extended weekend. Might as well wait to put the kit in before next season.

Why is my System Check alarm sounding?

SOLVED. Bad tachometer. Last weekend I verified battery and switched voltage was good & connections tight. I couldn't find any problems with the harness or connectors. I opened every connector on the motor & checked they were clean & tight. So that left me with the alarm itself. I found a NIB...

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

I'm limited this weekend. I'm at my cottage alone. I just moved here & don't know anyone.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

That was always my intent. This buys me a little time so I don't have to do it in the lake.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

The blockage was in the 1/4" elbow atop the tstat housing. Now that I can see the water is pumping I can take it out for a short ride to see if it overheats. IF i get a break in the lousy weather. Today was supposed to be warm & dry but instead I've got cold & spitting rain.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

Can this water tube be cleared from the top down--or is that a bad idea? My thought here is if I can get the water flowing then I can motor down to the ramp and remove my boat. I'd rather work on it in the driveway.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

Actually i DON'T think the impeller is my (only) problem. When I saw it wasn't peeing I checked the outlet hose & found it was plugged with dauber dirt. I cleaned that out but still it didn't flow. I can't blow air into the plastic elbow on top of the motor that the hose connects to. The metal...

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

That's a great idea--but i think I'll modify it by weighing something down on the bottom, like a tarp, so it's not in my way.

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

How difficult is it for someone with mech ability but no experience to change an impeller IN THE LAKE? I just moved to a new lake house so this spring has been full of unscheduled work. I bought a kit to change the impeller while it was still sitting on the trailer. Then the move suddenly...
