Why is my System Check alarm sounding?

Continuous. On my drive home tonight I was thinking about how it's acting strange. At one point during my brief cruise the radio also acted up. It started screaming along with the alarm tone. Volume control had no affect (separate amp), couldn't turn it off. Embarrassing. Turning off the motor...

Why is my System Check alarm sounding?

So you're also getting a mysterious tone-only alarm?

Why is my System Check alarm sounding?

If I was overheating just cruising at 1200 rpm, why would the tone (NO light) immediately stop when I pull it back to 800? Or speed up to 3100? This seems counter-intuitive to me that it would be so specific.

Why is my System Check alarm sounding?

... But there's no warning light and the motor seems to be running fine. The alarm tone stops if I keep the motor above 3000 rpm, or at idle. I thought the warning tone was supposed to accompany the light--but doesn't sound by itself. 2000 40hp Johnson. Factory harness, no splices or mods.

Dock question: how do these sections hook together?

One thing about this dock that doesn't feel right--There are NO auger posts at all. It just sits on the wheels, plus a pair of small feet in the middle of the 3rd section right where I'm tied. I think I'll replace the small feet with augers. It's apparently been used like this for many years...

Dock question: how do these sections hook together?

I resorted to calling the guy who has been installing & removing this dock at this house in past years. He made it look easy--but it was necessary to unbolt the end of the plastic decking to get the hook thru the narrow slot. I'll be doing it myself in the future IF I can find a helper. This...

Dock question: how do these sections hook together?

Of course the plastic decking bolts on--i was hoping it wasn't necessary to take the decking off to assemble the frames. Are you saying that's how this works? There's no mfr name on this dock and none of the videos I've watched use hooks to join the sections. None of the videos show a need to...

Dock question: how do these sections hook together?

I just bought a new lake house & it came with a roll-in dock. The sellers had already left the state so they weren't around to ask how to join the sections together. The plastic decking is flush to the aluminum frame below, and the gap looks to be too narrow to allow the thick hook to angle in...

    Recommend a good semi-permanent rtv

Thanks guys. Some surprising info here. Really didn't think Permatex would hold up under water but I might give it a try. Much as I hate the stuff I have to admit it's the one sealant in my drawer that never dries out after opening. I've thrown away SO much more silicone than I've ever applied.

    Recommend a good semi-permanent rtv

Is that paste better than a silicone sealer? I've never seen permatex recommended for this.

    Recommend a good semi-permanent rtv

All the sealants at my local auto parts stores are "ultimate_strength, everything-proof, high-temp" products. What should I be using on lower units, case halves, plastic intakes, etc that are supposed to be somewhat less than welded permanently together?

1999 Johnson 2 stroke primer issues

If by "zero resistance" you mean infinite resistance--your primer solenoid is burned out. Pretty cheap replacement. IF you mean zero ohms it's shorted out. You still need to replace it--AND you need to find the blown fuse or burnt wire that feeds the 12V from the ignition switch plunger to the...

    Trim motor

I thought the motor was powered thru the brushes only--no ground. The relay swaps the polarity.

    Saddest day of the year.

I'm in northern Michigan. Took the pontoon out for one last lap of the lake. Wearing pants & a sweatshirt...yuck! Now there's a big hole on the lake where my boat was.

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

My thoughts exactly. Outboards aren't the only thing I'll be using this on. Many motors don't have an exposed flywheel (or anything) to point the beam at. But they do all have a sparkplug wire. I use photo tachs at work, and strobes, and tone wheels, and digital timing lights. I'm not unfamiliar...

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

Most tachs & timing lights need battery power. When working on smaller OBs (and other small engines) I need something quick & easy to use to read rpm. Suggestions/experiences?
