I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

I’m hoping that I can get the winch stand raised up. I remember looking at the u bolts for it and it’s pretty crusty. Trailer is 99% excellent shape but you can kinda see the rust in that one picture. I have another trailer I could take another winch stand off of if I needed to

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

Only 2 pictures I have on the trailer are from just before I picked it up.. reason I really think it’s custom built is the lighting is built into the running boards like many equipment trailers and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a boat trailer built to that high of a quality

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

It’s got rollers and bunks and everything is adjusted correctly

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

Kinda what I was thinking.. boat/ trailer is still pretty new to me even though I’ve now ran it 5 times or so, this being the first real issue. I guess I never realized it was backwards. It was definitely custom built for a different boat, but it is extremely nice.

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

It doesn’t go under on mine, it goes over. I don’t have a roller stop, it’s one of those V butt things. The bow stop sits below the eye on mine. I should probably drop the height of the winch stand a little and re adjust everything. Either drop it or raise it anyway

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

The Hook on the strap kept getting caught on the bow stop and pulling it… I should have said pulling it over and not under.

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

I may have had it just not quite deep enough. I have launched and retrieved the boat from the same launch multiple times. I replaced the winch on it as the old one really was worn out and it may sit a little taller. But this is first issue. The trailer is custom built for sure but I think it...

Tools that younger people would not recognize.

On the Lockheed brakes, they are fixed adjustment so the shoes do not float. The adjustments have cam eccentrics accessed in the back, but the gauge is needed to get them centered. Can’t do it with the drum on. There is a commercial tool available that is a nut and a bar welded together. I just...

Brake adjustment gauge for fixed position Lockheed drum brakes. Even after explaining how it works I got a blank stare

Tools that younger people would not recognize.

This one had the young guys thinking I was nuts when I put it together at work…. But I’m really not even that old.

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

Took my big boat out yesterday ( Sylvan Offshore 22 ). Launched, nobody there. No stress. Nice day on the water. Went to go back in and it was busy. Multiple people tried stealing the dock. Finally got to the launch. Got truck, backed in and I could not keep the winch strap from pulling the...

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

As messy and stinky as it sounds ( it is ) a macerator pump is all you need. Friend of mine owns a septic and porta potty company and he has a trailer that he can hook to his truck with a small tank for porta’s and that’s all it is. That said… eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Slide the boat back onto a stack of tires. Then all you gotta do is lift the bow up to clear the trailer. Pull it out. Put new trailer under it as far as you can and crank it into place

    4.3 Mercrusier carb questions

Amazon carbs will generally ‘work’ as in you wouldn’t be stranded…probably. They are often not machined perfectly and/ or have messed up jets. You’ll probably have to open it up and tinker with it anyway. You’ll probably get it working but you could probably get your original working just as well

    3.0L differences

It has the crank sensor, an ignition controller box and the one coil with 4 posts on it. I just don’t know how many connectors it has. I’m wondering if it’s a waste spark system

    3.0L differences

1-3 were slightly tan not perfectly steam cleaned white like I would expect. 4 was black. It now has 4 new plugs. I can’t remember the number but I looked it up and same number AC Delco that came out. I’ll have to check the plugs when I get to the boat this weekend.. this engine has DDIS with...

    3.0L differences

I don’t think it’s freeze damage as there is zero signs of that as well as the PO used antifreeze to winterize. I haven’t spun it over with no plugs. Just a suspicion. #4 looked wet with oil to me but perhaps it’s oily and wet with water as well. Zero water in oil when I drained it. It’s just...

    3.0L differences

Plan on addressing them. I meant swapping to another engine.

    3.0L differences

It’s got both evidently or at least suspected water at this point… but it’s also running well enough that I doubt changing it entirely is really needed
