    Tilt and trim bracket cracked

Possibly. However, it will need to come apart to do it correctly, so maybe try Evil Bay for a used Swivel Bracket. Be aware that there was still a 2 Stroke 50 being made that Yr too, and it used an entirely different Transom and Swivel Bracket

    What is this part?

While a Trim Gauge was an option available on the 2nd generation of Power Trim introduced in 1984 on the I6s and the 66 cu in 4 cylinder, there was never One offered for the Unit your Motor has.

    What is this part?

The Limit Switch is there to prevent the Motor from being trimmed high enough to be lacking the Lateral Support provided by the Transom Brackets, so be careful how far out you trim it under speed

    What is this part?

It is a Trim Limit Switch. The Early style of Power Trim, the one you have, used it to limit how far the Motor could be Trimmed out. The Original Trim Tilt Control was on the Dash with 3 Buttons. The Center Button, would raise the motor up to where the Limit Switch would cut off the Power. Too...

    Johnson won't start

That Bump you that you thought was an Impact, may have been the Clutch Dog slipping. I concur with what racer suggested, a Tear Down and inspection, with a complete reseal as a minimum. Used Gearcases for that would be fairly common, any post 79 2 cylinder 35 and 30 hp, and most post 87 2...

Can anyone help me with removing a flywheel?

If there is a Crack at the end of the Crankshaft, I would be looking for another One. Get one for the 25, not an 18 or 20, as the Crank for the 25 was balanced better than the others, cause the 25's WOT Range was 1000 Rpms higher, On the other hand it might be cheaper and easier to get another...

    1989 J225TLCED: retrofit 1996-2001 90 deg looper Al carbs?

I think OMC switched to the Plastic, partially for costs, but also the Plastic reduced Heat Transfer to the Carb, and didn't corrode when exposed to those nasty additives(like Ethanol) added to Gasoline to chemically burn Leaner. There is more to a Carbs Fuel Delivery Curve than just the Jets...

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

I suspect a 17 would be a better choice for your boat. The Rams were attached to Brackets that were bolted to the Transom in their right. The Pivot Point for them was far from the motor's Tilt Tube. They were also attached to the motor's Swivel Yoke

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

Thanks for Catching my Typo The 888 was made from 1971 thru 1977. In 78, an 898 replaced it, but that used a Chevy 305

How long is your boat? What pitch prop are you running on it?

Can anyone help me with removing a flywheel?

Hammering on a Flywheel/Crankshaft is NEVER Good Idea. Thermal Shock might work, though heating the Flywheel can create other problems, there are Magnets in there, and their Positioning can be disturbed if the Flywheel warms up, resulting in Contact with the C I would leave it under Tension...

    extremely high idle suddenly

When the Idle Speed is Adjusted, the Length of the Throttle Cable will also need to be adjusted to provide a bit of Preload. Too much Preload, and Shifting in and out of Gear can be tough, whilst not enough, can result in inconsistent Idle Speeds. However 4000rpm would be a bit high for that. As...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

If the Engine breathes better with changes to the Induction System, it may make more power at a given Rpm as compared to the Stock Induction System. However, being the Cam hasn't been changed, it likely doesn't change the Rpm where Peak Torque occurs, so if there is increase in Power, you will...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

I would expect about 3800 with the 21, and no change in Load. In the Past, a loose Rule of Thumb was to Prop to hit Max, with the lightest Load you could have, which would allow for some addition Weight. Large Load increases, or towing a Skier may require a lower Pitch. Overloading the Engine...
