    Mercury classic 40hp two stroke

No, the 1957 Inline 6(60hp) was an extension of a 40 inch block. The 50hp was the 44in block. When they added 2 more to it, it became the Merc's 75hp

You have the Throttle Cable Length adjusted to provide a bit of Preload on the Idle Speed Stop Screw? It will need to be readjusted anytime the Idle Speed is changed. Too Little or No Preload will result in inconsistent Idle Speeds, usually too high, Too Much Preload, it becomes more difficult...

Double lip/extended lip seal - which way does it install??

Just curious, is that a Genuine OMC/BRP part? The part of the Seal, that I had the arrow point to, would be the part that would be installed outward, closest to the Prop, well actually the Thrust Washer.

Perhaps the Pivots are a bit dirty, and need cleaning and a bit of fresh Grease. Same goes for the Linkage, and return Spring to the Carb. What Service Manual are you getting the Link & Sync Info from? I know some of Mercury Electronic Ignition Boxes would alter the Timing electronically at high...

Fast Forward to the 70s and the 33.3 inch Twin Bore and Stroke, used on the 40hp, was doubled for the...
