    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

You're nice. I cut the 9 pin off my 3.0l 2 decades ago and sold it without it and the shifter linkage. :ROFLMAO:

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

The horsepower per mph also changes the faster you go... figure drag. Oddly, the alpha 4v was rated 225. Per service manual 18 mine would actually be 210 HP with the 4bbl. Using one of those online calculations I cone up that 215 hp is about right. Obviously some wiggle room on those but I've...

While not a cobalt guy, I will admit their color palette is fantastic. That cocoa interior looks great. You know the story on that damage? Seems like an odd place. Came down on something?

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

So I figured I will bring this one back. I got to the initial testing with the 4 barrel and intake swap last year. I still need to hone in the jetting some but it was at a serviceable place. The testing was done on similar weather days, about 80F light chop. I abandoned all other modifications...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Thinking about it... I haven't had a beer on my boat since before the restoration... sounds like a problem.

    PSA for inboard gas owners.....

We have a GMI unit and some handhelds with LEL sensors in them. I spend more than 20$ in calibration gases for them a month. I think the $20 unit is a no brainer for piece of mind.

    3.0L mercruiser compression

There is a flapper in the exhaust near the rubber boot after the elbow to help prevent water from back flowing. They sometimes break off and clog the lower exhaust. While I have seen good compression with high leakdown tests... that doesn't sound like what is going on here. You can test the...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

The 1.50 isn't that much of an oddball. The 1.32 is. The 1.65 from a 165 is pretty odd as it has the short input yoke. Only other odd thing, and it is no longer an issue, was on the old drives with the 1.65 you had to mark the gear mesh when resealing the upper as it was the same tooth count so...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

My experience with 4 blades is they tend to lift the stern on my hull. Usually resulting in trim making little to no difference as well. Try the 19 and see if you get in the ballpark for RPMs. If you were closer I'd loan you my stainless 19 to test just because. That prop has run like magic on...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

So my pilot tube would easily read say... 35 mph when I was running 30-31 GPS... that very easily can account for some of the top speed loss. Post rebuild I gained less than half a mile an hour GPS despite being several hundred pounds lighter so theres that too. Dad had an old 17' invader with...

    Mercruiser 888 Unexpected Prop behavior?

19 pitch 3 blade would probably be comparable to the 18 4 blade... the RPM drop sounds about right for stepping up 3 inches in pitch. While it could theoretically hit 60 with a 21p, your 3700 at 46 mph is most likely right. Short of some magic, typically WOT speed stays the same when making...

    Fuel came out overflow

You know... everyone warns about running tanks dry but in the few dozen I've pulled i never found much more than a grain of sand or two at the bottom of the tank and never moisture.

    Fuel came out overflow

My 84 originally had a 26 gallon tank, about 23 of that was useable. It was okay for cruising but if you did a lot of tubing it ran down quick. I replaced it was a 39 gallon, of which 37 is usable. That is a good size for my needs.

    Fuel came out overflow

I just flip the key on and watch the gauge. When I installed the new tank after the rebuild it was pretty easy to get a measurement. Also found out the fuel pump maxes out before the tank fills. (125$)
