    Repair Y Pipe Possible?

They can be repaired by a PRO TIG welder but not by an average DIY welder like me. To much salt is embedded in pipe that would be very difficult to clean and not be cost effective. I have never had an issue on an Ebay return, yet.

    Restoring my drive bell housing

Looks like a salt water used OD. You must know a great TIG welder. My experience with TIG-n saltwater used aluminum has been less that desirable. But, I had cataracts at the time. Good job!

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

not real easy. You should use special too like a turn buckle. I had to buy one. Snatching using the center of bearing, as Achris points out, may damage it.

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

INDEED, unless you can get on the outside race. I have a special tool that is similar to a turn buckle. It seems to work. If my old memory serves me correctly, I believe I purchased it for gimbal bearing removal for Alpha 1.

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

Snatch out bearing and then examine if alignment tool goes into bearing and coupler. If tool goes into both, you have problems elsewhere.

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

Is there a way to clearly see ALL mount parts and the correct position that they are supposed to be in? You may have dislodged something during the installation and it fell into your bilge. I did!

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

simple test. drill some 1/4" holes on the inside around transom plate and drain plug and examine material coming out. then plug back with 5200. do that for stringers too. Good luck!

New gimbal bearing, can’t get alignment tool in coupler

I would and I'd also test for ROT. That's an old boat.

Gas vapor out the secondaries at WOT

That's an old motor. If salt used, I'd be looking for a new block. I don't believe TB 4 had knock sensors and cheap gas may have caused pre-det. problem. Examine heads carefully. I once purchased reconditioned heads that the shop swore had never been in salt water. However, the last water...

Mercruiser 6.2l 300 (2018 model) Gimbal bearing grease how to?

I'm not fond of the sealed ones either, but as a Alabama deer hunter with a 4x4, I can attest that the sealed u-joints last longer than the greased ones. My truck was constantly in the clay mud.

Mercruiser 6.2l 300 (2018 model) Gimbal bearing grease how to?

Do you mean that the gimbal housing doesn't have a grease fitting on its stb side, or the bearing doesn't have one? I have NEVER seen a grease fitting on the bearing, but some are sealed and do not require grease. Just replace. However, if your gimbal housing doesn't have a grease fitting, maybe...

Mercruiser 6.2l 300 (2018 model) Gimbal bearing grease how to?

Some are sealed. If rough, just replace? I haven't a clue how to grease w/o fitting!

    Bellows full of grease/oil

Not 100% on Volvos but you should buy a pressure testing kit and find leaks before your really ruin something. Too much gimbal or u joint grease will sling out and become messy. The water and lube messs raises major concerns.

    Beeping

U have fume detector??? Regardless, excesses (disconnect and reconnect) all switch connectors including alarms. Wasps and hornets are bad in NW Florida for clogging up blower hoses and reducing air intake to bilge area.

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

How old is motor??? If my memory serves me correctly, the ethanol sometimes breaks down some of the older fuel lines and the crap ends up in places that it is not supposed to. I had a proline that gave me engine problems until I cycled clean fuel through the tanks/filters and replaced rubber...

Buying a automotive engine to replace my mercruiser, need opinions

If I understand you, the motor has been heavily used in salt water off and on since 1992. If so, unless it is FW/antifreeze cooled, I'd pitch it and start with something only used in fresh water for cooling. Just my 2 cents...
