Mercruiser 5.0 dies while idling - no fuel from line

Dripping????? GM Quad-jets were bad about dripping. I had a couple that I could never get to stop, after rebuilds from so-called experts. I replaced and problems ended. I'd usually know if carb was dripping by the increase in gas millage.

Mercruiser 5.0 dies while idling - no fuel from line

some tanks have strainers in the pickup tubes. Pull and examine. Tank may be full of floating crap that settles and then finds pick up tube when demand is high.

New Motor Vibration issues at low RPMs

Indeed! I had a 1995 Chevy truck that I maintained, including greasing U joints. Grease was not getting to rollers. Weird. I notice slop during inspection and decided to pull. I was shocked at no grease. .

Alpha one Outdrive Trim motor works sporadically. Solenoid issue?

In the future, if salt water boat, after replacing noids, cover with some plastic material to make sure salt water doesn't cause more issues. Been there!

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

Years ago, Timkin (sic) had bearing numbers (identification) engraved that allow gear heads like me to use and find "like" bearings. I assume U Joints as well... Now, since China makes everything, cross referencing may be a problem? I would not hesitate putting an auto Ujoint into a MC. If...

West Marine did have them and they weren't too expensive but you can order here or find them on Ebay.

New Motor Vibration issues at low RPMs

First, RE-check plugs and wiring. The motor mounts are super strong on a V8 and can sometimes conceal a miss at high speed and only during low speeds can issues be detected. Then, if OK, I'd pull valve covers and start pulling plug wires to find the cylinder that is causing issues. Perhaps...

    Stuck Valve/Cracked Head/Cracked Block

Pray that you didn't adjust valves too tightly and warp one by forcing it into it's piston top. Been there too many, many years ago. Good luck

    Stuck Valve/Cracked Head/Cracked Block

I would not use it with only 3 cylinders firing. I am not totally familiar with a 3.0 but #4 seems to be the problem. If you tore it apart, you should have seen top of piston for holes. Perhaps you didn't adjust #4's valves correctly? Pull valve cover and watch to see if valves close. I assume...

    Alignment help!

You didn't say but if you had motor out and then reinstalled it, you may have dislodged spring washers at the rear mount(been there). Another problem is that you may have bumped gimbal bearing and knocked it out of alignment when removing OD. That bearing is like a floating bearing within a...

Shift Interrupt causing engine cut out in bit forward and reverse.

I believe that checking also requires to be in water with correct RPMs under a load of water pressure. However, I had a MC back in 86 that shops could never get working correctly. Good luck!

Not unless you want a hand granade! I have had tack problems as well.

Power Trim Help on 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 will go down but not up HELP!

Depending on age and if saltwater used, I'd rebuild cylinders. I have on mine. Amazing results! That being said, jump start trim motor (use heavy gauge jumpers/wire) to bypass all the other switches and make sure pump is not bad. If it works(runs), start testing switches and solenoids. I had a...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Weak Link

Indeed.... Used Bravos components, or a transom assembly, are difficult to find or VERY expensive. At least they were when I needed them. Perhaps not anymore....

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Weak Link

I have blown up more that one V8, but they were in cars or trucks and were easier to tow home or to a shop. Your above information is why on my LAST boat restoration, I wanted Bravos. They are stronger. I fish offshore (or used to) and wave crashing happens frequently along with accidents. I...
