    3.0L comparability

borescope won’t show if crack is through to the crankcase so you are right to find another engine

    3.0L comparability

yes that may be true as well, the early inlines (not sure the years) used a shorter input shaft. Unless you have all of it together in front of you or have done the swap expect some mixing and matching

    3.0L comparability

bellhousing likely will fit but coupler will not your old one bolts to crank ub via studs where flywheel attaches. Hub on newer engines (post 1990). So if you target getting a pre 1990 3.0 with 2 pc rear main seal the coupler will fit

    3.0L comparability

the the flywheel size and coupler mounting changed in 1990 when the 3.0 went to a one piece rear seal. so as long as you have a complete bobtail it will work with one hitch- the rear motor mount spacing changed when the R.MR, Alpha one was introduced in 1982 ish. So you would need the later...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

100% unless its a rotten transom boat. My buddy just sold his 02 glastron GX185, Fing swim ladder was screwed into transom at water line... predictable results. He sold the whole boat for $1500 to a guy who needed a long block

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

I bought a partial engine from Michigan motorz in 2016. New base engine, intake, carb, ignition , wiring harness and fuel pump. Just added exhaust and my accessories from old engine. No guess work and has been trouble free for a decade plus now. Sometimes spending more up front is better. And...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

The 090M 4.3 (M for metric) were used in early 2000s, yes unexplainable mix of metric threads on side motor mounts , starter bolts, and flywheel cover fasteners, SAE for the rest

    Engine misfires after rain storm

No that why he suggested to replace. Typical symptom of misfire when wet is bad cap rotor and wires. If you don’t know when they were replaced start there. Check your timing and spark plug condition as well.

1999 MerCruiser 4.3 Alpha 1 Gen 2 Ignition Type and Timing Question....

Yes that is a TBV without a Knock sensor. yet to see a knock sensor on a 2 bbl engine. Knock sensors will have a knock module piggy backed to the ignition module. in base mode the timing will not move as the TBV will constantly be advancing the igntion to get best idle and power when advancing...

    Exhaust bellow slipped off

I had the oem clamp walking off the exhaust bellows on the bellhousing side of my gen 2 when I did it a couple years back. I think the transom end I put on with adhesive, bellhousing end popped off when I tightened the clamp. So b6 the time I got it to stay there was not much adhesive left, just...

Switching from Volvo TBI to Carb on a 1996 5.7 GI

nice I prefer carbs for these applications exactly for the reasons mentioned. I keep a carb kit for them on hand, but havent had to use it. Did you have to change jetting on it for the 5.7? On my 5.0 only thing I had to do was tweak the accelerator pump nozzle and linkage. There was some...

Fuel pump cutting out, 4.3 merc

correct and yes it would restart and then die after a min or two if oil pressure switch was dead. Could be anyone of several things that he needs to trouble shoot vs using the parts cannon. I had my oil pressure alarm switch working intermittently when I got my boat. It was a handymans...

Fuel pump cutting out, 4.3 merc

I could see the oil pump switch working intermittently for sure, could also see bad contacts. you would need to see if the pump is getting power when it dies and trace it back with a VM.

5.0 XL Mercruiser possible carb/fuel pressure issue

you need to check the fuel pressure when cranking to see what it is. Wonder if the outboard fuel tank vent was closed and pushing fuel to filter when you were changing it. If fuel pressure is ok you need to see if it is flooding out (too much gas), no gas, or no spark when cranking. Why did...

    3.0LX Exhaust Riser Question

so salt water is sitting in it for 4-6 weeks per year? then I would expect them to last 5 yrs or so, but as others have mentioned inspect them. At 5 years now I would inspect and be ready to replace. The 5 year rule of thumb could also be influnced by the local salinity of the water

    4.3 Mercrusier carb questions

I’m thinking it’s a mercarb based off the two hole gasket and oval holed gasket he mentions, which usually both come in the kit. When I did my mercarb a few years back on my 3.0, it came with both oval and two holed gaskets. Oddly enough the factory mercarb gasket was two holed, even though...
