    Try and enertia or revolution 4 . similar to you I couldn’t trim up much until I went with the Rev 4, now can use entire trim range . Would also verify motor height isn’t too high.

    the new long block I bought in 2016 is just about x2 now. Hard part is if there is a decent machine shop you will be waiting for them. The machinist had my block and heads for my 65 GTO for a year before they were done.

    Look for rust on the valves that might indicate water coming in through the exhaust. You need a long machinist rule and feeler gauge to see if the block is flat. Did the engine get hot?     I dont think it matters dealers choice. On my set up the lags were easier to get to with a wobble extension due to a side panel that made the bigger nuts harder to swing off.

    I did mine by the lag screws as generally they are easier to get to in the boat. You need to do an alignment regardless of marking the bolts even with same engine mounts etc I wouldn't trust is goes back in aligned...

    yeah runs great is a joke.. 3.0s are no the smoothest idling engine but if it has good compression and makes decent oil pressure on a test stand likely needs a tune up and carb rebuild
