1989 Cobra on 4.3 liter engine makes a funny noise

I used the stethoscope to pinpoint where the noise is from and it is neither in the engine , nor in the lower unit or gear housing. So far , that is good news. I'm hoping , maybe a loose screw or something that fell down when attaching the lower unit. The funny thing is that the noise is gone .

1989 Cobra on 4.3 liter engine makes a funny noise

While testing my engine I heard a funny noise coming like something rattling from in or around the outer unit. It sounds like a loose piece of metal banging against something. It is not bothering the engine or lower unit performance (as yet) and when I engage the gear it goes away. For now I...

best way to carry gas to the dock

I would just go with a few 5 gallon tanks and a jiggle hose. It may not be as practical, but it is a lot safer. There are just way too many things with individual storage that can go wrong.

    New Bow Roller

There is a problem with the older type that allows the tip of the bow to be pushed hard into the rubber in the center of the roller without the sides touching the roller. This often cracked the center of the roller mostly because not all bows are the same angle. This newer type allows for more...

    2002 200hpEvinrude 2 stroke

I am thinking about buying a 2002 24 foot Wellcraft which really looks nice. The only thing holding me back is the 2002 (Ficht?) 200 hp Evinrude 2 stroke with as of last October 226 hours on it and has good compression. This is probably made by Bombardier, but my worry is the ficht thing and...

Changing a 22 foot Starcraft Islander from I/O to outboard with the engine hanging on a modified transom.

Going back and forth between changing to outboard or not, or selling and replacing with an outboard powered rig were just too many potential buyers remorse things to deal with. So for now, changing from I/O to outboard is off the books. The transom is replaced , the aluminum stern is nicely...

    StarCraft 181 SS conversion

It depends on the engine that you hang on there. By this, I mean how far forward the engine comes over the transom when it is down and how far it comes in when tilted upward. Some engines sit farther back on the transom clamp than others. The farther forward, the deeper the splash apron and the...

    Which kicker mount to install?

If there really is no access, which I doubt, you might want to consider an alternative option like getting a Yamaha main engine that has the trolling option. I heard that there is a setting on the 6 cylinder Yamahas that will shut off 4 cilinders and you can troll to even less than 3 mph on the...

    Which kicker mount to install?

And don't forget to make sure that you have some serious backing under the flat surface to prevent the kicker from damaging that surface.

Noise after replacing impeller and fuel/water separator

Mmmm, interesting.... When inserting the impeller, use some form of lubrication (soap) and turn the impeller forward in the direction of rotation clockwise while inserting it. When properly installed, the tips of the fins should be bending backward when the propeller moves forward.

    Boat Cover Repair?

It would be a good time to see if you can find the receipt or the brand that sold you the cover. At least mine , gives a five year warranty that includes tears. Also, usually in the bag that it comes in, usually with the straps, there is a piece of material that you can glue on , so you can fix it.

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

So I am making some progress, The stern is all sanded and primed. For the top paint I picked Pettit EZPoxy which while maybe not the top of the line is high quality paint. Now the bottom part of the stern is also sanded and primed, but this part will be under (fresh) water for about 6 months and...

OK a question. I have a little 1984 Evinrude 7.5 HP.. Beautiful motor.

Don't forget that the Evinrude short shaft is 18 inches ,not fifteen.

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

I was counting on a grand. This boat restoring thing is something I'm really enjoying and it gives me something to look forward to seeing the end result Being retired I finally have the time to do it at my own pace and I find myself even enjoying sanding and other boring tasks, because I finally...

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

Can you define what you mean with "a bunch of money"? If it is spending a hundred dollars as opposed to twenty, I will go with the hundred dollars. The target is less than a show piece, but is with the intent to make it look original and last for more than just a few years. This boat is probably...

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

I am working on my 1989 V221 Islander and part of it is redoing the transom. So now the electronics and engines are off and waiting to be reinstalled. In short, this is a great time to repaint the stern, the color of which has been scr---ed up by the previous owner. (along with a bunch of other...

Replacing a transom on a 1989 Starcraft Islander.

I did, and the period correct would be a sea drive which I have not heard much good about. Apart from that I'm trying to stay away from 2 stroke not because they are bad, but because I'm starting to be a bit forgetful and checking oil is not what I want to remember after the fact...

Replacing a transom on a 1989 Starcraft Islander.

So yesterday I finalized cutting the transom. It's made of African marine plywood that is 12 ply per 3/4 inch. Glued together makes it 24 ply very dense (and heavy) ,which is probably overkill , but I like it. The boards will be glued together with West System 105 epoxy and sealed with "old...
