    If the engine doesn’t seem to be getting up to temperature then it may be a stuck open thermostat as that can make the gauge read low too.

    To the starter or from the starter on up to the engine when tested with either a multi meter or test light? Some models has either a 50 or 90 amp fuse connected to the main starter post which protects the engine components. Do you see a block type fuse device connected to the battery cable...

    This one just has more of the 454 Magnum appearance to me vs being the 7.4 Bravo design found in and around 1996... plus searching the number seen on the oil filter adaptor sort of helps support that visual by riser design. As mentioned, try to get the engine serial number as it should help...

    0A665138 suggests the stern drive to be an 1986 MERCRUISER MC1, (1.50:1) Model Number 01509016. Lets see some pictures of the drives and bell housing/transom of the boat as it may help some... Engine too.

    Bet you could call Chaparral customer service and ask general questions of how it’s held in place and try asking for general photos of the area opened up via email or something… Some manufacturers are decent at wanting to help.

    What does the oil gauge read with the key on, engine off? < Any alarm too? Just making sure there isn't a certain type of ground issue though it could be a ground issue too. Was the oil and filter changed since last years run to this years run? Engine serial number is?
