    make sure the compression, spark and timing are good, if so then that leaves proper fuel to air ratio to chase down needles and gaskets are not the only thing in carbs that can have problems. jets and passages all thru them need to be clean

    most problems like that are bad connections . battery terminals not making good contact to posts and then arc a little getting a better connection. pull and clean the connections to see if keeps it from happening again

    a motor that has set up for long periods of time usually end up with carb problems. hard to drain all fuel out of carbs, pump, and lines so when the fuel evaporates it leaves residue that plugs things up. my guess would be carb needs proper cleaning and setting

    if that is a 3 cylinder motor then it is not a waste spark system so each plug should fire just once

    some of those inductive tachs have a problem with interference from the other spark plug wires . also sounds like a lean sneeze happening that causes the motor to kick hard and die

    I would check compression, spark, and timing to make sure it is still in spec. something has changed that should not have without someone moving things. or an idle circuit in carb has plugged up or a vacuum leak somewhere.

    can you explain what you meant by no rev?. I thought it meant the motor would not throttle up in RPM never mind I just realized it was no reverse, my mistake. many years ago I came across a shift cable that had slack in the movement of the inner cable. I have no idea how that could happen...

    since it was a spark problem before, I would monitor spark when problem shows up to see if all 3 plugs are getting spark. if not spark look else where. if it is a spark problem, see what input and out put of CDI is doing. by the way I do not see how loose plug boots would cause that kind of problem

    I would flip the switches that set the tach for the proper motor it is attached to. could be there is a bad connection in those connections inside the tach. flipping them back and forth may help
