Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

If the engine cooling system presssure test crept down over 5 or 10 minutes I'd be doing it again and making sure there were no leaks at the plug... Creaping down is exactly what would happen if there were a small leak. Yes I would also be testing the manifolds. The worst thing that could...

Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

So the engine coolant circuit is holding pressure? The other way water can get into oil is if the exhausts are leaking water into the engine via exhaust ports. If there's such as a problem the water can get past piston rings into oil but the water can also cause hydraulic lock of the engine...

Can I buy a used 302 and use parts from my bad motor to convert it to marine?

Yes you can. Probably a different cam, water pump, headgaskets, distributor, oil pan, etc but you can use parts from your engine. I might've done the same instead of rebuilding my boat engine but I'm in the UK and used 302 Windsor engines are not as available over here so I rebuilt mine. If I...

Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

That's not what I meant, I meant something like a hall effect sensor to detect engine rpm (crank sensor) and a similar hall effect sensor to detect drive rpm. I vey much doubt there'll be a speed sensor in the drive though.

Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

Is there something (electronic) that monitors engine revs versus drive speed and backs of power when they don't agree? I doubt it but I don't know if the dog clutch drives and EFI engine combination features it. That kind of thing is fitted on modern vehicles to prevent damage to...

Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

If it was the coupler wouldn't the actual engine revs climb while boat speed dropped off? In the video the tach shows the revs climbing but listening to the engine the actual revs drop. If the actual revs drop the boat speed will drop off but there's a difference between speed dropping because...

Help! Bought a 1993 Four Winns W/ 5.0 OMC Cobra Motor and Drive - Losing power after crusing

If it's EFI will it have a crank position sensor that could be defective? I don't know how the rpm tachnometer at the helm (on the dashboard) connects to the EFI setup but regardless of if it gets it's signal from the ECU or from the coil, if the ECU uses a crank sensor that isn't reading...

    Artificial Intelligence

I've noticed AI repeating stuff I've written too. I used it recently for a different subject, comparing how various ammo would perform at various ranges (drop, velocity and terminal power, etc). On one occassion it got the answer to a simple ftlbe calculation obviously wrong, I corrected it by...

NEW YORK KNICKS ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Heh, I'm not into watching sports, never watch it on TV or go to games. Did used to enjoy playing a few sports such as soccer and rugby (the game American football originated from), not so much rounders (the girls game baseball originated from), not so much cricket (boring). At highschool we...

    MS Office alternative

I've got an old Toughbook too but the main reason I have that is because it runs XP and has the old (native) legacy serial and parallel ports on it which I need for some old software and ECU's. Heh it's battery lasts about 10 minutes so I need to keep it plugged in while using it but I only need...

    MS Office alternative

I have run Office 2013 (mostly Word and Excel but had the full package) on W11, it worked but occassionally doing certain things (iIrc scrolling) the screen flashed. I've got a pile of dead laptops, they tend to last a couple of years because I treat them a bit harshly doing diagnostics and...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Been re-reading the early parts of this thread because I'd forgotten some of the reasoning for converting from inboards to outboards. Sorry for going off subject a bit now, couldn't resist saying my grandad was on HMS Prince Of Wales when Hood was destroyed so saw it happen, one of his friends...

    Exhaust manifold discovery?

My friend has a boat with 4.3 Vortec, what does he need to know about the intake?

    Exhaust manifold discovery?

I agree if someone drains one they'll most likely drain everything. You, I and most here would drain everything but I'd bet there are others who don't often swing a spanner (wrench), hear or read they need to winterise the engine and do just that without realising they need to drain the exhausts...

    Exhaust manifold discovery?

If you see cracked risers / manifolds due to freeze damage, isn't there a chance whoever 'winterised' it did at least drain the block but forgot to drain the risers / manifolds.. in which case the engine might be OK? When I winterise mine I drain the block and disconnect water inlet pipes from...

18ft Boat Launch with RWD Suburban

I use a Nissan Elgrand minivan / people carrier to tow my boat, it's a JDM Jap import so not a very commonly seen vehicle, 3.5 V6, it's a bit marginal in terms of power but does the job OK. Most people would assume it's 2wd and most of them are but this one has switchable 4wd, just nothing to...

18ft Boat Launch with RWD Suburban

I expect some will say it depends on what the slipway is like, how steep it is, is it wet / slippy / etc..

    Power steering fluid in bilge?

Sorry to the OP for going off subject. I just sprayed the bilge with a hose with finger over the end to increase velocity of water, that loosened up most of the cruddy spots that were sticking to the bilge but the bits floated on the water. By controlling the depth of water and rinsing the bits...

What is the part number for this regulator?

If a fuel pressure damper goes wrong there are usually no symptoms unless it leaks.

What is the part number for this regulator?

Worth either putting positive pressure on the vac line to the regulator or clamping the fuel return pipe from the reg back to the tank (or trying both)? With that done if the pressure increases it could still be the reg at fault, if the pressure doesn't increase it is the pump at fault...
