2023 mercury 75 outboard trim question

It's a 2023 motor? Why would you try to fix it yourself? That's a dealer problem, right?

Found 1976 Evinrude 85hp with a new looking jet

Were there supposed to be pictures, or are we just guessing in the dark. Okay, I'll play. It's a 1977 115 HP Evinrude. Did I win?

    Unknown 55hp Johnson boat restoration

Great Job!! Thanks for letting us share that project with you. The key to selecting a prop is to maintain the recommended RPM range in WOT. Too much pitch will wear the motor out quickly and too little pitch will allow the motor to over-rev, which is never good. Have fun with that boat!!!!

    1988 60hp 2 stroke won't start Need help!

So, you've tested and have 2 of the 3 things needed to make a 2-stroke work. You have good compression and you have good spark. We need to make sure the spark is occurring at the correct time. Remove the nut and washer on top of the fywheel, and you should be able to tell if the key is in the...

Mercury Optimax 115 2 stroke flywheel grinding

How many teeth are on the starter gear? I found a post on another site where there were two different sizes of gears on a started that fit a wide variety of applications, but somtimes the starter was shipped with the wrong size gear on it. You can probably just replace the gear on top of the...

Mercury Optimax 115 2 stroke flywheel grinding

Post a picture. You're saying that the teeth are too far apart from the flywheel? I'm guessing the flywheel has been replaced, or the information used (year or model number) to order the starter is wrong.

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

I will add that my boat is a Sailfish 198DC. The hull is a bit "non-standard" in that the transom is 16" high, but the keel is actually 25" deep. About 3' before the transom, there is a "cut out", or tunnel, and the transom is not as "deep" as the keel. The motor on the boat came with the...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

As stated in #9, it's been replaced. Replaced with the new "mushroom" style and grommit was replaced also. Thanks for your reply.

    Steering Slack and Stiff Steering

Also on the port side of the motor, you can remove that big nut where the steering cable rod comes through the motor and replace it with one that has a grease fitting on it. They work great! Bass Pro sells them.

    Steering Slack and Stiff Steering

What motor do you have? There should be grease fittings on the steering tube on the motor. I told you how to grease the helm end of the cable. You can rub grease on the motor end of the cable by simply rubbing grease on the silver rod that comes out of the motor when you turn it.

    Steering Slack and Stiff Steering

Also, on the steering helm, the cable connects to one side and on the other side there should be a plastic tube that screws onto the helm. When the cable is pulled through the helm it goes into that tube. Put some grease in that tube also. If you grease both ends, it stands a better chance of...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

Again, over the winter months, I removed cylinder head covers, cylinder heads and the intake cover to clean out all water passages. There wasn't much in there. I do have a live well that I removed the plug from to use somewhere else. I'll certainly replace that. The height of the motor...

Yamaha 85 steering link, lock nut thread size?

Not sure about you guys, but I've walked into my local Ace Hardware with lots bigger parts than that in my hand to find the correct nut. I've actually taken off my shirt before an handed it to them to match a glob of paint on it because I forgot the name of the color. Snatch it off and take it...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

They did not solder a cylinder head. There were small pinholes on the top of the block in the water jackets. They use some type of solder to seal up the water leaks. No water leaks since then. No water leaking anywhere unless it's internal, but the motor runs perfectly fine and is capable to...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

It's a 1999 S115TLRX. Salt water edition - for whatever that's worth. Now that you mention that, when I bought it, the guy sold it dirt cheap because he took it in for his annual service and there were some water leaks in the top of the #1 and #2 cylinders. The mechanic removed the cylinder...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

Thanks guys. It's for a 115 Yamaha. As I continue to correct an overheating at high RPM problem, I'd like to know it's running hot BEFORE it makes the alarm go off. Seems like that indicates a pretty critical situation. Runs hot when going over 4000 RPM's. I've replaced water pump, Poppit...

    Is my motor toast?

Picture is much too close up. I can't tell what I'm looking at. Did it ever run hot? Were you mixing gas/oil at the correct ratio? What do you see inside there? Looks like it might be above the top combustion chamber. Do you see crakshaft in there?
