    '89 Mercury 9.9 parts needed

There's a set of cables that will make the tiller work correctly. They go from end of tiller shaft to the controls on side of motor. It's the drive shaft that is the expensive part. Can't go without that. Cables are about 50. Control box with cables I can find for about $100, but the...

    88 spl leaking gas

That's probably it. Easy way to check without putting carbs back on is the get a piece of fuel line and hook it up to the input nipple of the carb. Blow into that piece of fuel line and slowly turn the carb upside down. The air should flow into the carb until it's upside down, then you'll...

    Trim Pump Motor

And, it's hydraulic. The motor actually pumps fluid. It's not gear driven.

    '89 Mercury 9.9 parts needed

I bit off more than I can chew on this outboard purchase from a neighbor. It's a special motor made for sail boats and pontoons. It's a long shaft and made woth work with a control box. It's a tiller handle, but you twist the handle and nothing happens. There seems to be cables that can be...

Please help trying to check timing

Are you sure you're testing the correct plug wire? The #1 cylinder shoule be the very to one, a little higher than the one beside it. I'd get ahold of a shop manual and make sure that the wiring to the coils is correct.

    2000 Johnson 40 hp Won’t start

Do you have a fuel filter of any type? If not, trash in the bottom of the tank could have made it to the carbs and clogged up the low speed jets. Unless it's a tiller, you can bypass the shift and open the throttle to about mid way and see if it starts. Are the spark plugs wet with gas? If...

80's Bayliner fuel gauge/sender ohm range?

When I had problems with my gas gauge, I went to test the sender and it had the ohms range stamped on the flange.

    FULL POWER TILT PUMP

Not familiar with outdrives at all, but on outboards, if they get too low on fluid, they get air in the system. To get air out and allow room for more oil, you fill it up, tilt up/down several times and then add more fluid. You just keep doing this until it's working smoothly and there is no...

    Mercury 25 HP Tiller

I'd return it to whoever worked on it. Sounds like you spent a ton of money for someone to tear up your motor. What year is it? Why did the mechanic think it needed all those parts? Why did he let it leave his shop in that non-running condition? I'd get some/all of my money back and take it...

    Broken low speed needle

Sorry, you guys called it correctly. I've never heard of the tip of a mixture adjusting needle breaking off. I assumed it was frozen up and broke off flush or inside the carb. Good call guys, as always.

    Broken low speed needle

It's threaded guys. How do you tap it out? I'd take a nail or another screw that's about half the diameter as the adjusting screw and put crazy glue on it and hold it in place for a couple of minutes and see if you can screw it out with the adjusting needle on the end of it.

    Care to guess tire size?

If you've got a buddy with a wrecker, they have heavy duty dolly wheels on their wreckers that you can jack up each side of the trailer and place the bad wheels/tires on them and then strap them down for towing. You might be able to rent them from somewhere.

    1999 75hp Fuel Prime Issue

If you cleaned the carbs and cleared out some blockages or trash inside, it's expected that you may have improved fuel delivery and that would require some adjustmets. Often the mixture screws are used to adjust for little issues inside the carbs.

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I've had great success finding old outboard manuals at my public library. It's pretty cool finding among all of those books a section of greasy, oil soaked car and boat repair manuals mixed in with all the others. I have very frequently found a repair manual for what I was working on and just...

    fuel problem

Exhaust line? Not sure what you're talking about. When you pump the primer bulb, does water leak out of the front of the carburetor? If so, you have a needle/seat problem in the carb. Check your plugs to see if one is saturated with fuel after running, if so, you have an ignition problem and...

Trim and Tilt Relays click but do not operate the motor

When you bypassed the switches/relays, did you run the ground wire from the battery to the motor, or where did you connect it? I wonder if the ground wire from the motor is broken or not a good connection. It's a small wire and on many outboards it's simply bolted to the mounting bracket...
