Replacing Risers/Elbows and Exhaust Manifolds on a Ford/OMC Cobra 5.8 Ltr

The place where I got mine is Lighthouse Marine in Riverhead Long Island. Probably makes sense to pick the closest place to you due to shipping costs, the parts are kinda heavy.

Look down in the bottom of the center exhaust passage, do you see any sign of rust there? Hearing air in the fuel/air passages in the intake suggests air is getting into a place where it shouldn't be getting in that test, and that means water could d the same thing. A leak in the intake would...

Don’t use the bolt on the crank puller either. They can break if there’s too much resistance.

    Thunderbolt V question

Had air cooled VWs (Bosch distributor) Chevrolets (Delco), Fords (Motorcraft) Honda (Hitachi) and the old boat (Prestolite) never heard of this. Crazy idea!

    Thunderbolt V question

Why did Merc put loctite on a rotor? Never had problems with rotors getting loose and had several vehicles & now the boat with old style points systems.

Engine stalling when you give it too much throttle on take off

Probably it's electronic not a centrifugal advance unit it is a tough problem because the engine picks up RPM at speed fine, it is just off idle that it has problems.

Water in the oil is just a symptom there are a number of causes in fact Mercruiser published a nice article on how to troubleshoot water in the oil. Depending on if it’s just water in the oil but not in the cyls, or it’s water in the oil and in the cylinders. If you have no oil in the cyls but...

    RV build quality - Rant

Same as with boat rebuilds you can build a better one than they will sell you. That’s why I rebuilt my old boat trailer

I can’t see how even a leaky intake gasket would put air into the fuel/air passage in the manifold but I can see how a crack in a cyl head in a cooling passage right near the intake port (behind an intake valve) might. A head gasket, possible depending on how it blew. Problem is: You’d have to...

Just a wild guess here but if pressuring the cooling passages puts air into the actual intake manifold air passages then I’m thinking more of a crack in the cyl head near an intake port. Don’t see how a problem with the intake manifold would cause this.

They make it "look" good on the outside but the inside not so much. I also don't like the use of torsion axles on these vs a spring axle, yes they ride better but the physics of a torsion axle mount puts all the stress on one section of the frame vs springs that spread it out over 2 mounts. If...

Well that's a gamble, I would though. If one falls down the Y pipe you'll wish you did.

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

Exactly, the thermostat functions as a gate valve, and due to the fact that with an engine running at idle, it won't build enough heat in the cooling water in the block to keep the 'stat fully open, you really can't safely use the suck AF up the outdrive method with raw water cooling. Boats are...

You really need a pressure gauge to accurately measure if the water passages hold pressure. A fuel pressure gauge will work.

If you got Barr manifolds get Barr elbows. Can’t mix ‘n match brands. Better off just getting a whole Barr kit if they make it for your engine. Marine engine.com sells them for sure; the place they get them from is kinda local to me so when I buy em I don’t pay shipping because I can just pick...

    V6 240 impeller issue.

Impeller doesn't look right, the splines sticking out appears to be what wore the deep marks in the cover. Check part numbers carefully. Nothing but rubber should be running against the cover.

Where's the Nitromethane one?! Ever since they quit having top fuel drag racing at Englishtown (Raceway Park) I am in nitro withdrawal.

But the diameter of the non remote (standard) filter on the V6 is smaller than on the V8s, it all depends on what remote set up if any is present. Even though the 4.3 is often referred to as 3/4ths of a 5.7, there are a number of differences. I bought a remote set up for my engine from Michigan...

yes you can and just get a filter for a Chevy S10 pick up with the 4.3, try to find one that is for the non-remote filter set up.
