Is there a ridge at the top of the bore ?----If so then 3 new0.020" O/S pistons is the path to happiness.

Send Yamaha a picture of your newest motor on the boat.----Perhaps a brand X -----But I do not believe they really care too much.-----These companies and dealers today are different than they were in the past.

Post the compression values on this motor.----Or remove intake bypass covers to inspect pistons and rings.----Serial # is for the 78 model year !

Went to a clinic on torquing of fasteners years ago.------Presenter had experienced folks torquing stuff.-----Most folks were way off when asked to torque to 100 ft-lbs.----Oh , And I worked un stuff where torque multipliers were used.-----And fasteners were torqued up to 900 FT-LBS using...

Cooling system on most marine engines is not under pressure.-----Temeratures are lower than automotive as well.

When an outboard is running there is a slight pressure developed in the gear case.

How did you line up the connecting rod cap ?

Folks still mis-understand " power "-----A vehicle on a level road would not need 180 HP to move at 50 MPH.----But a boat sure does.-----I would want some sort of system to separate a battery from the boat in case of an incident.
