Removing remnants of elbow to manifold gasket on still attached manifold

Stuff a large rag or wad of paper towels in the exhaust opening while you are scraping. Rick is steering you straight on what to use and how to make sure it is flat when you regasket it, just takes a little birt of elbow grease to get it done.

    Stroker engine build

Factory mercruiser exhaust is a wet system. Water is introduced to the exhaust gases after the elbows on top of the manifolds. If you have a bigger (aka longer duration and overlap) cam you'll suck water into the combustion chambers. High performance/boderline racing engines will use a dry...

HP sizing on Chap 23 SSI

Unfortunately with a bravo iii repro is an expensive hobby. i think a set of 4x4 props like hill marine would help. Reality is it should be had a 6.2 ....

HP sizing on Chap 23 SSI

23 ft. boat I’d hold out for the bigger engine. My good friend has a 24 ft deck boat , one he bought new after it sat at the dealer, got a great deal etc... Has a 350 mag with 300 hp. It is adequate at best, needs a fair amount of throttle to stay on plane.

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

If you have could water co,I gout the prop and nothing coming out the engine most likely is water pipe connecting discharge of pump to upper part of the outdrive or seals in there. It’s easy to misalign that pipe when putting the drive halves together. If the water leaks out here it is in the...

    Tahoe q7i prop

Three of my friends boats, all 19-21 ft lake bow riders (two bayliners one four wins) all with 5.0s(two carb 220 hp, one 260 hip mpi) all came factory with 1.62 drives. My sea ray 200 factory used a 1.62 for both carb and mpi 5.0s and mpi 4.3. The 4.3 carb came with a 1.84. I think you have a...

5.7V8 with a 1.84 alpha one gear ratio

I would start with 4” more pitch than what was on there, 23” if you dont know. Would second to start with an aluminum until you rough it in, unless a prop shop will let you try a bunch. I think you have an advantage here In That a 23 ft is a fairly large boat for a 5.7 to push so the steeper...

    Tahoe q7i prop

The ignition module has a rev limiter in it so you can’t overdo it

    Tahoe q7i prop

I think typically a 5.0 carb engine will have a 1.62 ratio in this size boat.

    1998 Volvo Penta 4.3L GL

I did the same swap in my searay 200. The side motor mounts and front of the engine are 4” farther forward. My boat was set up with motor mount stringers that accepted either the 4.3 or 5.0. So as long as you have room in front it would be worth it.I wouldn’t bother if you have to move the rear...

    Stainless Steele or NO..

Pfopbably not worth the money. Are you looking to correct any performance issues besides the fact that its a pontoon boat?

    Tahoe q7i prop

Try an enertia they aren’t cheap but generally hear good results on them.good balance between acceleration and top end, good bite when trimmed out.

    Blessing in disguise

You may have to step up in Prop pitch I’d run it and see. I swapped a 4.3 for a 5.0 and kept the steeper 6 cyl drive ratio went from 19” to 21” pitch and it works perfectly for the valve seal and piston and ring questions I’d talk with your machinist who will be doing the work on this. new head...

    5.7 Venturi Cluster

ok now I see what you mean. I don’t have a mercarb handy but does seem really odd.if you can’t find one there are a number of YouTube vids rebuilding these carbs or call a carb shop like mikes carb parts and ask. I would not Think you would want to solder it shut as it looks unmolsted , you...

    5.7 Venturi Cluster

Which carb did you buy specifically from whom, I think Sierra does make a merc a knock off that is new, likely other sources are remanufactured carbs that may have a mix of parts if some one made a mistake during rebuild

    1997 5.7 Gi fuel system

in addition to Lou s comments about cold starts - its seems like your engine had fuel injection on it, then someone hit a roadblock parts or maintenance wise and swapped out for a carb? Must have been problematic enough to tear it out? i have a1409 on my mercruiser 5.0 that works very well...

19' to 21' Bowriders or Sport Decks

I’ve been very happy with the two Sea Rays I’ve owned over the last 25 years- 1991 170, and a 2004 200 sport. 21 is a good size for that lake And uses you outline. Look at the SPX 21. personally I prefer IO ,despite the advantages of a modern 4 stroke ,solely for the a clean swim platform on the...

    Changing Gear Ratio...Prop Change Required

Yes try the 21” check wot rpms. You may over rev so back off the throttle when you get to 4600. going to steeper gearing will improve ( all other things being the same) holeshot and will limit top end, hence going up in pitch to compensate. Five years ago i swapped a 5.0 for the original 4.3 in...
