Put some oil in from the top, trim the drive up down and leave sit with the drive level. Remove the lower plug and let it sit. Others say to put in mineral spirits and flush after with oil. Never tried that myself. I’d imagine sea foam would do the trick also.

Any oil is better than no oil. Except for cooking oil, don’t use that. Sorry Bondo, I had to twist your grease gun.

Yeah, that play comes from the steering pin bolts not being serviced in the past. They should be torqued to I *think* 50 foot pounds seasonally. If the play gets real loose the gimbal ring may break when tightening those bolts. If they are kept torqued, it’s never an issue.

Not if the hoses and tank are saturated into the plastic. I work on many boats and the only cure is replacement, and cleaning the areas they were in after they are removed for replacement. I know that’s not what you want to hear being you just bought the boat.

If it is from the head, It could be from the hoses, they get saturated over time and seep the odors through. Also a plastic holding tank will do that the same way. The only cure to replace all of the above with new. If the po used some kind of odor eater in the head you may be smelling that.

The only way to seal most anything is to remove it completely, clean the mating surface then apply your sealant then re-attach the piece. just going around the edges never works and looks sloppy.

i use one of these, it's great for working on outboards and smaller engines. I've used it on most everything that sparks. There are cheaper versions, and I don't know how good they are...

I'm thinking that if you have a good friend that is familiar with how a boat works, would be a good thing. They could help you out a bit along with us on here. You stated you had a hard time with the float pin, I would hope you didn't force it and mess it up badly. Not giving you a hard time...

my 12' duck boat is from the late 70's. its still going strong. Riveted hulls hold up ok if you don't pile it up on the rocks. Heck, mine has bullet holes in it from someone being a jerk. A couple ss screws and away I go.

Is it firing on all cylinders? If it's not, the entire boat may shake hard under low power.

Almost looks to be from that grommet on the valve cover. Could have broken off but I don't know how it could have worked its way to the pan.

Were you under power, going fast or just idiling along?

Hose pic and power tune. Get the pic in there and give it a shot of power tune in a couple spots. Easy at that point.

I think your cold sticky grease is making it hard to turn if the bearing was installed correctly. You can get some of the grease out from behind the bearing by wiping some out with a finger.

You could use a electrician lube that they use for pulling wires through pipe, or just get a spray can of Quicksilver power tune.
