    Yamaha F250A 6P2 – Code 72 Above 4000 RPM After Warm-Up

Are you talking about the warning coming from the tachometer? Where on the tachometer are you seeing this?

What is This? It has Mercury on it.

There should be no bickering. If one wants speed through the water use a pitot tube or paddle wheel speedometer. If one wants speed across the the land* use a GPS speedometer. Those on land care not a whit about speed through the water. Why do people boating in water care about speed over...

What is This? It has Mercury on it.

All modern aircraft still use a pitot tube for speed. Only way to know their airspeed. Speed through the air. Pretty much the same except for a boat which has an alternative. That being a paddle wheel for speed.

That seems contrary to a discharged battery having a greater current flow than does a fully charged battery. Where current flow is greater in a discharged battery versus a full charged battery. Input voltage being the same of course.

Charging and tach issue. Voltage rectifier upgrade to 35amp?

Yes. No input to the rectifier equals no output from the rectifier.

Charging and tach issue. Voltage rectifier upgrade to 35amp?

It is the coil within the stator and the magnets that are creating the electrical power (amperes times voltage). Not the rectifier. Rectifier is only converting AC voltage to DC voltage.

If not the applicable warning from the service manual can you provide the document number and page number?

    No tach,no charging

Are you saying that because perhaps there is no standalone ground wire? I am not aware of any R/R that does not have a ground of some sort.

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

Is anyone suggesting that electrically powered devices be kept turned off to the maximum extent possible in order to help the alternator last longer? Maybe run a live well pump only every so many minutes instead of continuously. Come in before dusk so navigation lights don't need to be...

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

Is the thinking that boats should not have lights, radios, gyros, pumps, trim tabs, MFD's, etc. installed as this equipment would need to be powered by the alternator of an outboard motor?

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

"An alternator is a compact belt-driven generator that’s installed on an engine to convert mechanical power to electrical power. That electrical power helps recharge a connected battery and, more and more, is being used to directly power onboard systems."...

Mechanic sounds like the type that cautions not to store batteries on a concrete floor.

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

Batteries are being charged and recharged every day by most every type of motorized vehicle. Strange sticker. While at the same time an alternator is powering more and more electrical components in cars, trucks and boats.

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

The mechanic does not understand basic electricity. Sounds like he is regurgitating something he read on the internet. The world has been jump starting dead batteries and using the alternator to charge them since alternators (and older style generators) were discovered.

    No tach,no charging

Can you copy and paste the snippet from the SM where that is stated?

    No tach,no charging

So on the red and black wires you are seeing battery voltage only when the motor is off but then no increase in voltage when the motor is running at a fast idle?
  18. B

    No tach,no charging

Yes. Now connect the yellow input wires to the regulator with the red output wires connected to the battery and the regulator case grounded. You should see ~ 14 DC volts (meter set on DC) at a fast idle. Important that the regulator is connected to the battery. Otherwise no DC output.

    No tach,no charging

Correct. Just connected my meter to a 120 volt AC outlet. Set on DC. A steady 0.24 DC volts were seen.
