    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

If I boated on a lake my current boat would be perfect for us as well. For the ocean, it is less than perfect. Not that any boat is actually perfect.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Weighing my options . . . If the cost of a conversion rivals the cost of a sell/buy, then sell/buy may be the way to go. Kind of depends on a bunch of variables.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yes, at that point, I would not be doing a conversion . . . it would be new boat time.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I have an email into Cruisers to get their advice. I'll try to find out where they get their brackets. I was wondering about the pod-to-transom seal, as many of the brackets have an open face. I think I've seen some that are closed face. I wonder why they are not all closed face?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Scott, I see that there are a few brands of brackets . . . Do you know of the better brands and perhaps the ones to avoid? My ideal 'swap' would be sell my 2016 I/O 338 and buy a 2019 or newer OB model Cruisers Yacht 338 - same boat. But, the cost bump-up is pretty steep. I could do a bit...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Fair question. I am getting tired of keeping up with I/O's in the salt water (I think @Lou C can relate). I can do it, but my preference would be to have outboards. I have considered getting a different boat that has outboards, but none that I've found have a layout as good as what I have...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

One of the nice things about this (my) boat is that it was offered in both I/O and OB versions. So, it can be seen as to how the bilge area and structure is modified/reinforced to accommodate the outboard bracket, etc. . . I contacted a local re-powering shop to see what they have to say about...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The current engines are the SeaCore versions, so they have full closed cooling. Good point about the water heater, It would only be useful on shore power. I'm with Lou on the attraction to OB's . . . I'm getting too old for this stuff with I/O's . . . engine access and annual...

    Solar battery chargers

A solar controller will manage the charging. When there is enough sunlight, the solar charger will start charging, and stop when the light diminishes. The charging will fluctuate based on clouds passing by etc. The solar controller will put out the amperage that it can, based on how much...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Greetings . . . I have been considering transitioning from having twin Sterndrives (I/O) engines and go to twin outboards. I could do this in one of 2 ways . . . 1) Sell my sterndrive boat (Cruisers Yacht 338 mid-cabin bowrider) and buy a same/similar boat that has twin outboards. 2)...

    Solar battery chargers

Greetings and thanks for the heads up @alldodge I'll assume that you have 2 100 Ah batteries, and you generally will discharge them to 50% . . . so 100 Ah of charging A solar panel will give about 65-75% of its rated capacity, based on my experience. The resting voltage of the batteries is...

    Garmin GPSMAP 7608xsv Issue

I tried powering up the 'old' GPS before installing the new one . . . It did power up, since it continues to dry out, but the screen has several black areas on it (presumably from the water). . The new one (GPSMAP 943xsv) fit right into the existing opening. Just needed to drill some...

7.4 L Volvo Penta turned into a milkshake - what to tell the mechanic

It depends on how the engine made the milkshake. If it was from a crack in the block, then it would not be worth fixing IMO. It should not be allowed to sit for long, better get the water leak diagnosed and resolved. The motor may need to come out of the boat.

    Garmin GPSMAP 7608xsv Issue

Quick update . . . there is power to the connector. I did get the unit to power up briefly, but it shuts off in about 1 second. I discovered that there was some water inside the unit. (Not sure how that happened. . .) I got a drop or 2 of water out of the power button area, more water out...

    Garmin GPSMAP 7608xsv Issue

Thanks for the ideas. I'll be taking my DVM out to the boat this afternoon to check voltages, etc. I've also Googled a few reset/restart methods. There is what looks like a reset pinhole just below the power button. I also noted that a ground wire wire was never connected to the unit, so...

Volvo penta 4.3 gxi rough running

Beware of the parts cannon . . . . It is best to have the Rinda Diacom software, in order to pin-point the problem. It usually pays for itself on the first use.

    Garmin GPSMAP 7608xsv Issue

This might be a long shot, but I'll give it a try . . . My Garmin (GPSMAP 7608xsv) powered up as normal today, but within a few minutes powered itself off (apparently) and will not power back up. I checked the connections and the fuse, tried a bunch of things but still a no-go. In Googling...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Quick Update . . . The boat is launched, engines seem good, and I saw 74 watts of power from the solar panel out at the mooring . . . which I think is a world's record for this solar panel. In other news, the truck broke down on the way back from the ramp . . . transmission cooling line...
