    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Lots, to think about. In the age of low-tech boating an OB conversion would be much more straight forward. With the hi-tech systems and controls, it is another story, so it seems. I did get a follow-up email from Cruisers Yacht saying that they had not done a conversion to outboards, but are...

Used Boat Values - Value tools

-> What is the boat worth to you? -> What are the odds that a seller listing their boat for a higher price than you want will come down to your price? It is all part of price negotiation.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

They sent drawings and pictures, so I can understand the differences in the two versions. (I/O vs OB). The key thing with the CY 338 is that the transom is inset 44" from the edge of the swim deck, whereas many other boats are inset about 30". So, 44" + 'mounting well' (nearly 60") is a bit...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

    In other news . . . My boat registration sticker arrived today . . . and . . . I got my truck back from the shop after a $6,400 brake job and tranny work. (ouch . . . o_O )

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

By the looks of it, they hired a Naval Architect firm to help with the design, based on what I am seeing in the drawings.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I got a bunch of drawings and some pictures of the hull ( outboard version) during assembly from Cruisers Yacht. The bracket is from Armstrong Nautical, looks to be custom. They gave me the part number. 👍 They said that I would probably need to take the top of the swim deck off to install...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Life was so much simpler when I had my sailboat. . . . of course it took all day to get anywhere. :ROFLMAO: I do like my boat . . . just wish it had outboards. I will sit tight as I gather more information. My boat is rated for 700 hp . . . so twin 350's . . . 300's would probably be fine...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Hey @Lou C . . . I have noticed that the Formula boat outboard conversions are more of a bolt-on with little/no modification of the swim deck. The Cruisers Yacht 338 OB has the swim deck notched out about 1 foot, so the engines mount right at the edge of where the swim deck would be. I...

I am starting to believe some of the global warming in N J.

The local town sea wall and dock was re-built a few years ago. I think it had been there since biblical times. It seems that the engineering folks forgot to factor in sea level rise. Not sure they meant for the platform structure to be partially submerged during high tide. .

Used Boat Values - Value tools

NADA/JDPowers tend to be low for older boats. BUC is a little better, but can vary. What I have learned over the years about used boat pricing is that in terms of price range, boats sell from the bottom of the range. I usually make a chart of the asking prices of same/similar boats and it...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I did a little bit of measuring and math from the line drawings I have of the boat. I can understand why Cruisers Yacht has the bracket in such a position that the swim deck needs to be notched. It looks like they were trying to make the center of weight (mass) to be the same as the I/O...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Very cool . . . but 44 feet is a tad over my mooring constraints. Besides, the Admiral does not let me spend that kind of $$$$$$$ :ROFLMAO:

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

. . . OR . . . I would need to make similar mods to the swim deck and hull, so the engines hang in the same place as the factory outboard versions (which is right at the edge of the original swim deck). Still in the paper analysis stage . . . . :geek: . o_O . Sell/buy options might...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The engineering department at Cruisers Yacht is telling me that the hull and deck molds for the outboard version of the 338 are different, which I sort of knew about the deck. I think it has to do with the balance point of the boat, since the OB version has the swim deck notched about 8"...

This . . . https://forums.iboats.com/threads/lifepo-batteries.765395/ Also got rid of a defunct refrigerator in the wet bar and took out some heavy tables . . . all totaling about 400 lb weight savings.
