    Removing topcoat 1957 CrownLine

I want to repaint my old CrownLine runabout. It currently has a topcoat of questionable material that is flaking off. I have removed most of it by the method that worked best, a flat razor. What's left will take forever using a razor. Paint remover doesn't work very well either. I don't want...

    Johnson 30HP water hose question

Still tweaking this motor, I have a T fitting on the hose that leads to the water indicator pee hole. The hose that comes off the bottom of the T went nowhere but sprayed water so I capped it off. I don't know what this hose was for. I suspect a PO rigged it for some reason. If this is...

    Gear oil question Johnson 30HP

I went to change the gear oil on my 1987 Johnson 30HP. I should have done this when I first got it, but I didn't. After running it several hours I decided not to push my luck. When I removed both plugs nothing came out. When I began pumping new gear oil in on the second pump a blob of brown oil...

    Dunns Creek, Florida - Info?

Re: Dunns Creek, Florida - Info? Well today, Sept 27 was our excursion to Dunns Creek and it was great. The creek was as nice as I expected. No Manatee zones. We got to the St. Johns River and I considered heading down to Welaka but the weather was changing. Wind was picking up, (weather said...

    14' Larivee restore

Re: 14' Larivee restore What a great little boat. I love the Lapstrake. I had a similar project and did some of the things you mentioned, bench seats and poured in foam. I used high density foam and glassed directly on top of the foam. I also removed the boxes that served as seats and...

Johnson 9.9 and 15 HP at same RPM

Just wondering... IF a 9.9 and 15 HP Johnson are basically the same motor, save that the 9.9 is de-tuned, THEN assuming that prop, gears and timing are all the same, is running a 9.9 at WOT no harder on the motor than running the 15 backed off proportionally (running at same RPM)...

    Dunns Creek, Florida - Info?

Re: Dunns Creek, Florida - Info? Funny you should mention it. This photo is from last years excursion by land. We were sitting at the outside deck, (is it blackwater Inn or something like that?) and saw this rainbow on the other side of the river.

1988 Johnson 9.9 Tiller Handle Disassembly

I just picked up a Johnson 9.9 motor, J10RCCD that I need to go over before I can use it. One problem is that the throttle cable does not move when I twist the grip. I assume it is frozen or jammed. Finding the parts diagram is no problem but I am stuck on how to disassemble it without...

    Johnson 1980-1984 35HP vs 1987 30HP

I'm looking at a motor tomorrow. A early 80's 35HP Johnson.(I don't know exact year yet) I currently have a 1987 30HP Johnson. I am wondering about the difference in the 2 motors. Correct/Inform me please. I believe both are 31.8 Cubic Inches (as is the 25HP I think) I read that in the early...

    MFG 1964 restoration/transom work

Re: MFG 1964 restoration/transom work I stand corrected then. I had not imagined the tabbing to be more than 1 layer, 6" wide, 3" on the hull and 3" on the transom, but I suppose the correct way is overlapping layers. Where my transom meets the deck it is 53 1/2 " wide and has a 2" curve in...

1968 Johnson Old Style RC Cables and fittings

A little help from someone familiar with these remote control cables. My Box and cables are from a 1968 boat and I want to connect them to a 1986 motor. I have already attached the throttle cable and will be able to attach the shift cable no problem but I have one issue I'm wondering about...
