    serial number on lower unit???

    got a 73 merc 888, with original upper. PO changed out the lower unit with what i belive to be a MR or an Alpha (based on the info i got from reading the sticky thread about merc hitory and identification. does the lower unit have it's own serial # on it somewhere to help confirm what it is?

    wonder what would happen if you hook a 10 pole tach to a 20 pole alternator??? if a 20 pole alternator spins 1000 times...you would have 20,000 pulses (every 20 pulses is one revolution) correct??? if you send these 20,000 pulses to a 10 pole tachometer...the tachometer would 'think' you are...
