    Starcraft campers

As some of you know I recently got back from paradise(also known as Northern Michigan) and I saw something that I wanted to share with the Starcraft clan. On the way back down along the shores of Lake Huron we were playing a little "I spy" with the kids, focused on boats, trucks and campers...

Mooring vs Beaching in Great Lakes

Just curious who's done this and how did it work out? I have a 16' Starcraft SS(aluminum) and I'm gonna be on Lake Huron for 10 days of sanity-preserving vacation starting this weekend.:D:D The boat has a pretty good sized splashwell and ample freeboard. I will also be adding a float-switch...

Trim/tilt bracket works but not at speed

I've got a perplexing scenario...as the title indicates I have a CMC PT-130 trim/tilt bracket that works great. Except while the rig is planed out? As we all know most of the advantage of tilt/trim is to be able to adjust while on plane to achieve top speed and avoid ventilation. I...

    Starcraft glossary

I thought that it would be nice to have a thread where our nomenclature is explained in case folks run across some terminology they are unfamiliar with. OK I'll start... Limber holes- the little openings in the ribs along the keel line that allow for water to drain properly to the stern bilge...

This is now a public group.

Hey folks, just wanted to post a quick note regarding the SC tin can club. I modified the group from "invite only" to "public" so anyone can join. I realized that there are so many of us that managing the group is impossible. Hopefully this will be easier and we can get all of our pictures in...

    Bluegill dropped below deck

I'm sorry to say that my fishing buddy dropped a 3" blue gill and it flopped it's way under the deck of my boat. The deck is permanently attached and is not going to be removed. It is not easily retrievable...and yes we have tried a coathanger.:D So I'm curious...who has had this SHT happen...

    '71 80hp electric choke issues

The electric choke on my Merc 800 no longer works. If I choke it by hand with the cowling off...the pin slides with some force but it's clearly not as smooth as it needs to be for the remote control to slide it. This works to get it started but is a bit of a hassle. Does it need to be taken...

    Restoring rubrails/cleats

There has been much discussion regarding how to return these old rubrails to the original look(not faded/chipped) in all of our threads so I thought we could use a thread dedicated to this. I uncluded cleats in this since my '79 SS has the same yellow material built into the cleats as my...

Tips on building a swim raft?

I've been plotting and scheming to build a swim raft to keep anchored up north on Lake Huron for swimming and diving for years...and I think I'm ready to take action. I've located some required pieces cheap and I'm curious what methods folks have used to build the structure. It will probably...

    Floating jigheads for walleye?

Who has used these and what best practices/tips do you have to share? I'm heading down to the St. Joseph river near Niles, MI and haven't used these before so was curious what kind rigging people have used.

Repair spun prop or buy new?

Hey folks, I apparently have a spun hub on my '71 Merc 800 and I'm trying to decide whether or not to have it repaired by a prop shop or just buy a new one. Ideally I'd like to do both so I have a spare on board. I've read that this can normally be repaired for $30-$80. I'm also considering...

    CMC PT-130 bracket circuit breaker?

I am in the process of getting my rig ready as my restoration is progressing and I'm having an issue with my CMC hydraulic tilt/trim bracket. The manual states as first troubleshooting step: "Try re-setting the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker is located on the red wire coming off the...

    Epoxy resin question

I'm curious...does epoxy resin weigh the same after being mixed with the hardener and cured as it did from the store in separate jugs? Since a chemical reaction takes place it could alter the properties possibly? Any insight is appreciated:)

Will this prop fit my '71 80hp?

I'd like to get it at least as a backup just in case I have issues with my double bladed factory prop. My Merc is a 1971 inline 4 80hp. It wouldn't be a very good backup if it won't fit the OB. Thanks for any insight:) From the ad: H 13 X 19P 27 3X - Was a back up for a Mercury Outboard 125 horse.

    Saginaw Bay walleye/perch

Just want to see if folks have any reports from the bay on how the walleye and perch bite is shaping up this spring. I'm thinking about launching from either Au Gres or right by the river mouth and checking it out in a few weeks. Photos of your catch are welcome!

    Bimini or camper top?

I didn't make this a poll since they are super annoying...just wanted to get an idea what you folks plan on doing for canvas. I like bimini for the price:) and ease of storing...but the full camper top with side curtains sure keeps a boat warm and dry in some weather. Iboats has a nice tall...

    Thank you iboats

I've been on the site for one year now and figured it was about time I expressed some gratitude for all the great help I've gotten from the nice folks that make this place the best boating site on the web.:) I've asked silly questions, posted some questionable comments and tried to help out...

    What's next for marine technology?

I was thinking about using GPS on boats today and how many folks have them. It occurred to me how many times we have been lost in fog or darkness on the Great Lakes, trolling for salmon(probably 10-15 times in my lifetime), when a GPS pretty much eliminates the possibility(assuming batteries...
