Please help! How to remove idler pully / replace alternator belts on a 3.0L Merc

Re: Please help! How to remove idler pully / replace alternator belts on a 3.0L Merc That's not an idler pulley, it is the water pump. Isn't this the belt routing anyways?

DIY boat plug mod, no more wrench

Re: DIY boat plug mod, no more wrench Similar to the OP's idea. These are kind of cool - they have a screwdriver hole as well and looking like they could be pretty easily hand tightened. One-Way Safety Drain Plug - Seasense 50032270

First trip of the year, with the new boat

OK, my turn to admit to several stupid human tricks today Took the VTX out for its first trip since we bought it. Balmy 50 degrees and 15mph wind on Minnetonka. Backed it in to the water and started it up. Quick check of the engine compartment showed I had some water spraying from somewhere...

    2005 Mercruiser 3.0 compression

What should I expect to get when doing a compression test on a 2005 3.0L? I'm assuming somewhere around 150-160 psi? Have a potential buyer who wants a compression check done, which is fine but doesn't help a lot if I don't know what the expected range is.

Next seasons boat, now the waiting

Just closed the deal on our boat for next season. 2012 VTX with 85 hours or so. Still need to sell the Bayliner, but that should go pretty easy in the spring. Now I can just stare at pictures until spring when we can actually use it.

    -4 last night -16 tonight...

Re: -4 last night -16 tonight... Dunno, I'd say 30MPH on a sled is a little rougher than 80 on a snowmobile ;) And it actually got cold here this morning -16F. Had to put on a hat ;)

Re: Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home? Just for one more point of ref - the diagram on the right shows a sandpoint and where the check valve is normally located.

Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home?

Re: Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home? Pretty sure that is what the tag on the side says. I've only had to prime the pump once - after I replaced the pressure tank last year. Didn't take anything more than pouring the water into the pump. As for what is going on below...

Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home?

Re: Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home? Maybe that too, but in every shallow well I've ever seen, including the one in our lake place there is a check valve. This is where ours is:

Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home?

Re: Anybody ever use a freeze alarm for a vacation home? It is a jet pump. There is a check valve probably right above where the line comes out of the floor and into the pump. The pump has to have a prime, so when you replace it or open the system then you need to open up the priming port on...

    Looking at Tahoe deck boats

Re: Looking at Tahoe deck boats Depends entirely on the boat. 115 isn't much of an engine on a 20 ft boat, the norm would be a 4.3 or 5.0L I/O I got to drive a Glastron DX235 deckboat for one of their catalog shoots a few years ago and it performed and rode every bit as well as a similar...
