Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

This may be a solution, Just came on the market in NY. Just need to keep saving my allowance :ROFLMAO: BTW - I just checked the Mercury website and the 6.2L sterndrive is not listed . . . can't say I blame them at this point. :ROFLMAO:

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

It is starting to rain, so I may not get much testing done today . . . I did get the starboard outdrive finished in the early morning hours. I did some testing with my amp meter (DVM) Here are the results . . . . It seems that something is getting turned on when the ignition switch is turned...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Thought for the day on the electrical issue . . . The helm gets its voltage (power) from the house (accessory) battery bank. So, voltage for the engine systems comes from the battery bank, but the key switch ignition voltage comes from the house bank. That might explain how I am (still)...

Just looking at my diagram and the newly added purple (ignition) wiring. The things to check look to be: Ignition switch Alternator excite CAN P & H resistors Outdrive Lube J1939 Connector I'll update as I proceed . . . I appreciate the comments and ideas. :)

old lube of an unknown type . . . I have about 8 quarts of the Mercury High Performance lube.

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Yes, I was thinking either the ignition switch or the alternator . . . something is dragging the voltage down.

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Taking a break from electrons today . . . I did some maintenance work on the outdrives. I noticed that the gear oil had not been changed in a while, and I was starting to get a delayed shift on the port outdrive. After draining down the old gear oil . . . one thing led to another . . . Here...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Just looking at the wiring of the ignition circuit, I am thinking that maybe the nice new alternator is causing the problem. I'm going to compare things on the port engine, but wondering if I pull the exciter connector off the back of the (stbd) alternator, and the (9.2) voltage goes up to...

Quick Update . . . Alternator wire is Orange (verified) @Fun Times I found my 9.2 volts . . . Purple wire on the OBD-M fuse socket (2 amp fuse). I'm now updating my diagram to show the purple wire (aka ignition wire in most cases) The buzzing of the MPR ONLY happens if I have turned on...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Diverting back on topic . . . I have mapped the power wires (as best I could) from the overly busy wiring diagram. Not sure it will upload properly, but here it is . . . I took some liberties with the color designation, since my graphic software doesn't know about wire stripes. :D . . I...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

I did some current draw testing on the port and starboard batteries, but did not see anything of significance. The boat's electrical system never sleeps (so it seems). There is the radio, the CO detector, the inverter, the mercathodes, and probably some other stuff that draw small amounts of...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Meanwhile . . . I am away from the boat for a day or two. So, I am trying to map out the power connections from the massive diagram that I posted. I have a feeling that there is a bad connection (or a short) somewhere that is dragging the voltage down from the 12.8 range to the 9.2 range. But...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

A couple of updates in answer to some of the questions . . . The buzzing only happens when the stbd engine switch is turned off. Turning the other switches (house and port engine) off/on do not seem to matter. If I turn the stbd engine switch back on the buzzing immediately stops.

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

FWIW - I went through the 2 years of maintenance history from the prior owner's marina (they gave me a print-out) and there was nothing mentioned about low voltage warning or electrical stuff. Interestingly, some stuff that they checked or fixed, I am finding are still issues (port engine...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

I feel more suppressed than the relays . . . or would that be depressed, not suppressed. Anyway . . . based on the diagram of the relay, I am thinking it does not have a diode. I've looked online for specs, and it mentions "diode & resistor versions available". Although the relay is a...

Mercury 6.2 ECT DTS Axius Voltage Issue

Thanks for everyone's help on this . . . The inputs help from getting tunnel vision, which is easy to do on things like this. I have the outdrives waiting their turn for TLC. The gear oil is black as coal and the port drive has a delayed shift. Probably will do the poor man's clutch fix on...
