Buying a used Minn Kota powerdrive

Looking at a used Minn Kota Powerdrive. 12v 55lbs. What do I need to look for? What problems might be hidden etc? This is for an 18' Starcraft (aluminum). I've already asked what the shaft length is, but can't think of anything else to be curious about until I see it.

    VHF with bells and whistles

Looking into picking up a good VHF radio and am confused as to the bells and whistles I need (vs what the gadget guy in me wants). I know I want the DSC but am also thinking it would be nice to plug it into my sounder/gps. I've got a Lowrance 522 that has NMEA 0183 and 2000 and I see Lowrance...

    Not fishing this Christmas

I actually had in my mind to go out and try to catch some trout this Christmas in my 18 foot boat. Got it all set up with a heater and closed off etc. Coldest frigging winter in 30 years and the boat launch is solid. The lake itself looks decent but no way to launch and not going to warm up...

Can we talk about Canadian Politics here?????

For those of you who may not know, take a gander at what is happening North of your border. Probably the biggest mess this country has seen yet.

The things I think of on the toilet

Been trying to set my boat up for winter fishing on the big lake. Have a good top and windows, but the back was completely open. Had a canvas person quote me a proper drop for my top but at $800, it was not going to happen (I figure the guy had too much work and didn't want to do it). So I'm...

2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD Driver window

So, while following this weird, but monstrous boat last night, my drivers window decided it didn't want to go down anymore. It just kinda makes a grinding noise. Electric window. Anyone have a good resource, web site, forum for trouble shooting and digging into it? Doubt I'll get to it until...

    Newest Admiral

oops!. Okay, he's not quite there yet but at my count he has 18 posts to go so I thought I'd be the first to congratulate him. But I hear a rumour that any posts which mention "Corona" are not included in the count toward rank, so He may be a long ways off :) Congrats Ward. Now get back to...

I'm curious what others see in the Post Count thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=275728 All I see is But I'm told (by TD) that the whole post count/rank schedule is there. I'm wondering if my ad blocking software or something is blocking it and why.

1981 Evin 115 carb leak when tilted

Just not sure if this is normal or not, but I seem to leak all the fuel out of my carbs when I tilt the motor up for transport. I disconnect my fuel line before I tilt, mostly because I'm worried it will keep siphoning fuel. Then I seem to have to pump the bulb for a good 5 minutes for it to...

What's the issues with the 488

A friend has a boat for sale with a 488 in it. What are the issues that make this an undesirable drive and can they be fixed? He has already had the charging system converted to a standard type and has been told the cooling is the next issue that may be a problem. As well, it seems the carb...

So, I've got this spare hull......

Been thinking, I've got a spare Starcraft hull. Yeah the transom metal is shot, but surely there is some way to use it on my current Starcraft hull..... An extension? A widening? Double hull like an oil tanker??? C'mon guys. I need some ideas here. Oops! is just about done his project and...

2 battery setup with 2 engines charging.

This is on an 18' Starcraft that I use mostly for fishing. I run a 1981 Evin 115 as my main motor and a Honda BF100 as a kicker. Both motors have chargers, although I've never hooked up the one for the Honda. Normal for me is a 5-10 minute run on the Evin, 4 hours on the Honda, and another...

Can you tel an 85 hp from a 115 hp?

Strange question, but I'm thinking about things again. I have a motor that, according to the cowling that came with it, is a 115hp. There is no tag on the transom bracket and the freeze plug has been "altered". Obviously this motor went for a walk at some point in it's history. It looks to be...

    3% slip?

Testing props today. 18' Starcraft SS with an 1981 Evin 115. Motor is raised as high as possile. 13X15 Stilletto SS prop. 37.9 mph (gps) at 5500 rpm. Never had a question on the tach. Motor trimmed all the way up. I calculate that as 3% slip. Same setup but with a 13X17 aluminum OMC prop...

    Lightweight 14 foot cartopper?

I have a 10' pram and a 12' cartopper. I'd like to replace the 12' with a 14' pram (flat front) for taking people fishing, but don't want to have to trailer it. Be running a 10Hp Honda BF100 so I'm not looking for a big 14'. Anyone know a good model 14' cartopper? I'd be building an...

    Shipping boat cover poles?

I'm trying to sell my poles off my old boat for a cover. The cover is not in great shape but the poles are good. These are fairly tall, curved poles that go from one side to the other. Concerned that they won't ship well. Any hints or suggestions to shipping them that won't cost a bundle?

    Prop slip question

I've just put an Evinrude 115 on the back of an 18' Starcraft SS. Same motor and props that I tried to figure out in this thread a while ago. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=178243 Different boat though. Saturday with the stainless. 13X19 OMC prop. WOT of ~4800 rpm and speed of 38...

    Friggin wasps

Stupid things are building their nest here now. Anywhere and everywhere. Spent a lot of hours working on the boat this weekend and got chased off it by a few angry wasps Saturday. Went to the store and bought wasp killer. Spent half my time Sat afternoon working on the boat and the other half...
