1974 Evinrude 70 HP Charging system install

Ah, so the regulator is for the High output vs the standard. Still need to pull the boat out, but good to know I should see volatge coming back to the battery from the engine while running. Thanks, SHSU

Awesome, so you thought about all of this already. Very cool. Excited to see how the tank comes out. While common on you hull, that was one of the mods I made on my SS16 was to have a under deck tank manufactured. Very happy with how it turned out. SHSU

1974 Evinrude 70 HP Charging system install

Thanks all I was under the impression it was an aftermarket mod because of the voltage regulator. I will have to test it when I pull the boat out again. Any reason why the kit has a voltage regulator (581307) vs what is already common on the engine? Thanks, SHSU

1974 Evinrude 70 HP Charging system install

Howdy All, I have a 1974 70 HP Evinrude (70442M). Works great but looking to add the ability to charge batteries while under way. I see that I can purchase a kit that comes with a new stator, rectifier, and voltage regulator. Only issue I have is I don't know how to install it...

When my daughter comes fishing, she always has to go. So she gets dunked. When the water and temp are cold she doesn't have to use the bathroom and go over the side anymore. I think she likes to play in the water more then she does fishing... lol SHSU

If the cap is welded as one piece, then glueing it down and keep the ends under the end caps should be enough. Remember that you will have a engine mounted over it. That is all I did for mine and still holding strong. SHSU

Winter is always slow for progress. Like the grate. Going to have a catch pan under it in case you wash something you don't want down there? SHSU

How does the HVAC tape hold up to water? Like the storage boxes. Wish our boat was big enough for that additiona. SHSU

Did you use a hardener? If you can create a dent with a fingernail then it hasn't fully cured. My experience, paint always takes twice as long to cure as the manufacture says it will... SHSU

That sucks, but all of our projects had something similar happen. Part of the process. Small progress is still progress. Keep up the good work. SHSU

Man it sits perfect. I guess the wet mud helps it settle and cradle the hull for support. SHSU

Nothing like a Turtled hull. You going to use Gluvit/Coat it on the rivets/seams to help seal it? SHSU
