    Mercury outboard school

Can any of you Merc guys recommend a school to attend if someone decided to pursue marine mechanics (specializing in Mercury Marine) as a career? I have seen MMI on the internet (and contacted them) but that's about it.

    1968 Merc 6HP "peeing" help

Does this motor have a "pee" stream?? I have a 1969 20HP that does but the 6HP has nothing that would resemble one. Could it be blocked and that's why I don't see a stream?

    1968 Merc 6HP questions

Should the fuel pump keep constant gas in the fuel line? I have installed a clear hose for my fuel line and have noticed that it's not always full or showing gas flowing. Will changing out the diaphragm help? Also, should I see a tailtell or "pee" stream coming from this model?? If so, where...

    1968 Merc 60 6hp making "sputter" sound

1968 Merc 60 6hp motor has been running fine but all of a sudden it let out a loud "PFFFFTTT" one or two times and it cut off. Not really sure how else to explain it. The motor runs fine after letting it sit awhile but eventually begins the sputtering again. Any ideas??

Does this sound like it's gonna cost me?

Having trouble shifting motor into reverse (refuses to budge) but not forward. Guy at the shop started mentioning the slight possibility of the lower unit being in a condition needing replacement. He's, of course, going to call me with an estimate for repair before any is done but I was curious...

engine turns over but won't stay running

'69 Merc 200 20hp: In the last few weeks I have rebuilt the carb and the fuel pump (including hoses and brass elbows). This week I replaced the inlet needle, seat (made sure levers were measured correctly), and gasket because the old seat was not the right part; caused leaks. The motor was...

    Float bowl cover issue (help!)

1969 Merc 200 20hp The float bowl vent is pouring out fuel while the motor is running. What's going on? How should I stop this?

    Using a manual

I have a Seloc manual to help me and it's easy for me to follow. I hear some say I need to get an actual "Service Manual" if I want to be able to repair or maintain my engine. Any thoughts? How much difference is there between the two? A parts list included w/ Serv Manual, I'm assuming??

    '69 Merc 200 20hp-idle problems

I've had a few problems in the past and got advice to pull carb and make sure it was clean, jets clear, etc. I did that. Now here's my(& others)problem: I have to squeeze the bulb to gas tank until I see gas coming out of carb, and then it starts fairly easy. But, to keep it from dying I have to...

'69 Merc 200 20HP lower unit lube prob

When I changed the gear lube in the lower unit it acted as though it didn't want to take the lube. I was never able to get an "overflow" through the vent hole. The pump I was using would inject the lube but the engine kept trying to force it back out. I got 6 oz in there but, again, never did...

    Supposed to be sealed?

1969 Merc 200 20HP: Maybe a stupid question but I see a very small gap between the exhaust and the lower unit. This isn't supposed to be there, right? The guy I bought the motor from took me through, step-by-step, the process of changing the impeller. I don't know if it was there before or not...

    '69 Mercury 20HP starting problems

Starting the engine is not the problem, however it doesn't seem to want to run unless the choke is "halfway" on. If I try to rev it up, the engine burbs one good time and the engine dies. I haven't had the engine long but I'm determined to get it running. I have a service manual but it doesn't...
