If you had your choice of primer and paint....?

Hi all... So I made the mistake of going to a few auto body shops and asking them about self etching primers, and paint, and such... after some quotes of over $200 just for primer I figured I would come here. I have a '52 Alumacraft 16' tinny. Wire brushed down to bare aluminum, with the...

    Time to GluvIT!!!

Hey all... got my 1952 Alumacraft all wire brushed down the seam, transom, and some seepy rivets that need a little TLC. I am a little sketchy on the ratio of mixing. Obviously a 1:1 if I did the entire application. Which leads me to believe, I could break the application out into equal...

Trailer wiring issue cant seem to diagnose

Re: Trailer wiring issue cant seem to diagnose I did confirm that in a 1994 Ford Econoline 150 "Glaval" Conversion Van there is only one fuse that controls the "aux" components with a 7.5A fuse. It is still good, if it was blown, none of the trailer lights would be operating at all.

    Upgrading tire size?..Maybe...just maybe...

hey guys... I am considering something and looking for insight. Got my boat and trailer last year and am finally getting on the road to recovery... The boat came with (5) 4.8x8 Wheels... tires are pretty much shot on all of them... and I think one wheel is bad. So, down to about 4 possible...

3M 5200 or leave it alone?

Towards the bow, on the inside of the boat where the two sheets of alum come together... is a gap...actually 2 of them. It looks like someone had originally tried to put something to fill the gaps, but I had some to find it was easy to peel off and remove... wasnt a good job. Should I try to...

GluvIt and Non-Skid paint?? W/ photos!!!

HI all... am coming to a point I am not sure what to do. I am getting ready to put in some rivets and I wire brushed the ribs (stringers?) on the inside, and fully on the outside of the hull. I was thinking that after all of these cure, I would do a water test, and if that goes well to apply...

    Rookie mistake?

Hi all... So my first step in my restore of my 53' Alumacraft was to wire brush the entire outside of my boat...bottom, sides, around the rivets, waterline rib...etc... I wanted to know this boat, inch by inch and scratch by scratch... So come to find out the wire brush set I have been using...

    In comparison to modern motors...

I have an Evinrude Aquasonic Fleetwin 7.5hp Outboard... In comparison to its overall design, weight, HP output and so forth.... what is that type of motor comparable to now a days? Could a 5HP modern motor power my boat just as easily? Powering a 16' Alumacraft. Just wondering if it is going...

    Carp Bowfishing ...

Last carp of the 2012 season... we saw some freaking hogs out there this past weekend...20-30lbs easy... Realized that the clear water, and depth make for different shooting angles... haven't figured out how to shoot in depths of 5"+ yet... used to shooting in shallow water.. Anyway...

Hi all... touched on this before and want to make sure I am on the right track here... Local hardware store has A/B Marine Grade plywood...$70 a sheet for 1/2" Based on my calculations of my two pieces extracted from my transom, I should have plenty of wood to complete this. Inside piece is...

    1955 Evinrude Aquasonic Fleetwin 7.5

Hi all.. Took the cowl hood off my motor last night, and to do so, I had to unscrew two adjustment dials (sorry I dont recall what they were). However, one of them I believe was a low gear fuel adjustment dial. This dial has a set twist radius (from left to right) that is determined by an odd...

Flushing out ideas for my boat

Sorry to keep asking so many little questions, but my brain just wont shut off... And yes, I try to search before I ask anything.... Seems like every spare 10 minutes throughout my evenings I meander out to the garage, pick up my sander or wire brush and get to work...no hesitation, just...

    Rotten rivets?

Flipped my boat over last night to prep for cleaning and sanding / polishing and came across these sweet mamma's... Would I just pop these bad boys out and pop some new rivets in there? Or should I really not worry about it?

Just found a gash in my boat!!!

Of course... It couldn't have been perfect...too good to be true. I was looking around the hull of my tinny and just now came across a number "7" shaped gash in my boat...below the waterline rib. Looks like someone hit either a trailer angle, or a freaking coffee table...take your...

    Old caulking?

Howdy guys/gals... During my restore project, I noticed inside the boat, all the way towards the bow/nose where the two side pieces meet, there is a slight gap, that looks to have been previously filled with some sort of caulking... obviously it is shredding, peeling, flaking...the whole bit...
