Here it is:
-Carbs have been rebuilt.
-Fuel pump is working
-fuel tank is venting
-Has ignition
-Reed valves are new

The engine won't start. If I spary ether or some starting fluid directly in the carbs it fires over, but once the ether atomizes it stops...

    Paranoid question

I guess I should be happy the my engine is finally running great. But...why did my stator, trigger (didn't really die but resistances were off by 50-60 ohms) and switchbox spontaneously die. Is there an underlying problem? Could the rectifier be a fault?

88' V6 200hp merc isn't going as fast as it should

I initially had a 89' V6 200hp Black Max, which burnt out and there is no need to go into it. But i bought a rebuilt 88' V6 200HP carb. It runs great but...My old engine pushed my mako 23 at 36 kts (top speed), but my new 88' only maxes out at 29 kts. What's going on?

    Runnin a merc 40:1

Can you do any damage running the engine 40:1 versus 50:1. The mechanic i bought my 88' V6 200hp merc carberated off (as a side note he is a great mechanic, always helps me for free and gives me parts) told me too. He rebuilt it and says he always runs his engines 40:1 and they never burn out or...

    Thanks to everyone at iboats

To fill everyone in on my story (as if most of you aren't tired of it already). My 88' merc V6 200hp had some problems coming home one day after a great day of striped bass fishing. I could go no faster than 8-10 kts on my long ride home. I tested for spark, only 3 cylinders fired... tested...

    maxrules.com and serial numbers

I have been trying to get a serial number for my 88' V6 200hp merc and someone suggested the site
www.maxrules.com. But all his serial numbers are 7 digits or characters. I am trying to order a factory manual from mercury and they insist that it must 8 characters long. What's up?

    Possible serial numbers?

Two years ago my 89' 200hp V6 Black max burnt out on me, long story no need to go into it. So I bought a rebuilt 88' 200hp V6 carberated. However, my boats transom is 20'' and the shaft on the 88' i was going to buy was 25''. So I think the mechanic used the shaft from my 89' and placed the 88'...

88' 200hp merc might have fuel problems?

My problem might be similar to the post zarx put up on the forum. When I give the engine full throttle is responds and starts to get the boat to plane out. Then it suddenly backs off, as if it was at half throttle. The primer bulb appears to stay hard while this is happening (or at least when i...

    Problems at WOT

Just recently my 88' 200 HP Mercury has not been able to acheive WOT. What it does exactly: It gets to WOT for 1 second and then backs off. I intially tested for spark in all 6 cyclinders. 3 of the ignition coils were not firing. I tested the stator and found that the blue/white and red/white...
