1953 Evinrude 15HP - Bevel Gears for Throttle

I took this motor apart many years ago, and decided to put back together. I cant determine why when I twist the throttle handle, it will allow the driving gear to rotate past the last tooth on the gear, causing the gears to not be engaged to one another. They then have to be aligned again...

    Patching Deck

So, I have a 12" x 6" hole cut out of the deck up in the storage area. Now that the area below has long since dried out (and leak fixed), I want to patch the cut out. I figured I could cut a 2' x 2' hole and glass in a new piece of plywood. Will this work OK? (note that this area of deck lies...

    1979 35HP vs. 1968 40HP - Power Ratings, etc.

I considered looking at a 79 35HP, but am wondering how it will perform on my 14ft saftemate. I once had a 1968 40HP which performed adequately, and maxed out around 26 mph. Given that somewhere along the line the power rating (at propshaft vs. at crankshaft) changed, could I assume that the...

    Filled Engine Transom Mount Holes

Hello. Just looked to know if this is an OK repair. Filled transom engien mount holes, drilled them out to 3/4" due to hole irregularity, used epoxy resin on 3/4" dowels and inserted into holes. I left perhaps 1/8" to 1/4" space on either side of dowel for epoxy filler. Is this OK? Thanks.

Rot Fungus - Dangerous to Breathe?

I opened up the floor in my boat, after years of water below, and I note that theres black spots on the hull on some of the wood. I assume this is rot fungus, and my question is, is it safe to be working around this fungus?? Is it dangerous to breathe? What precautions should be taken to...

    Stringer Question

OK, sorry about all the saftmate questions lately. Im wondering about the way I did the stringer replacement on my 15 ft back 10 yrs ago. The boat has three stringers, with only the one on the centerline actually contacting the floor over its entire length. The other two (on either side of...

    Fuel Lines Seeping - 60HP

End of the summer, I replaced VRO with regular fuel pump, and replaced all fuel hoses. I noticed a bit of fuel dripping down the leg of the motor....I found that the small lines going to the carbs are seeping at two of the "tees". Is there a good way to get those plastic clamps good and...

    Stringer Question - Poor Design?

I have a 1968 SAFTMATE, 15 ft fiberglass boat. Hull Repair - Questions

Fiberglass hull, 10 yrs ago I punched through the hull while using a chisel during floor removal (to replace rotten stringers and floor), perhaps about 2 inches long (if I recall correctly from 97). Water Between Floor and Hull

SO, I have a 1968 Saf-t-mate 15 ft. Since new, water always got into this subfloor area (according to my father), and this led to us replacing the floor and stringers 10 yrs ago. The trouble is that its always wet in there, and I know its just a matter of time before the wood is all rotted...

    Switched to XD-50 from XD-30

1988 Johnson 60HP. Switched to XD-50 and I must say that the motor ran much better than with XD-30. It idled smoother and ran smoother, and smoked significantly less (pre-mix). Also started faster than it has in the year Ive owned the motor. Would the XD-100 be suitable in this motor??
