1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

I did pull the impeller plate. No pieces in there. It is done now, and I tested it in a barrel and it seems fine. It 'pees' very strong now, and almost immediately after starting motor, whereas before it was several seconds before the stream started. Shifts fine. I'll be taking it to the lake...

Yes. Fortunately I don't think I damaged anything.

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

I found a 'generic' torque chart for the size/len bolt that calls for 8-12nm. So I took it out, cleaned, re loctite and torqued it to 8nm

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

Ok, one more question on this. As I said, this is 1988 ELG40. I have 'a' Yamaha outboard service manual that supposedly covers 1984-1996 2hp - 250hp. I downloaded this years ago, and I can't remember where from, but I 'thought' it was THE Yamaha published service manual. Anyway, The manual...

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

I've owned the boat for about 12 years. in that time, I've had the buzzer go off maybe 4 or 5 times. I shut the engine off immediately, and in a couple minutes, I start up and go and no buzzer. On the other hand, I'll trolled literally all day long many times, and it's never gone off. So...

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

Ok...so on to the next task. Finding and removing those pieces of impeller. So far I've tried -back flushing from from the tell tale hose fitting on the exhaust cover -back flushing from the thermostat housing(after removed thermostat and 'hoped' to find pieces there, but no luck :( Then, I...

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

Well, I got it apart and it was the shift shaft. Unfortunately the old impeller(was the original, based on the bolts had no type of wrench marks etc), had two fins with chunks out :( So they are in the engine 'somewhere' Aside from that, I have another weird thing now. THe impeller...

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

I'm almost 100% there are only 5 bolts here(but having never done this, I cannot be sure). I DO see what Boscoe99 is referring to in the parts schematic, but I think that '6th' bolt is the trim tab bolt, and I had removed that also. So 99yam40, I think maybe you got it. I do see this 'tube'...

1988 Yamaha ELG 40 , trying to change water pump/impeller

I'm having a problem trying to remove the lower unit so I can change out the pump. Got all 5 bolts out and separated the lower unit. Problem is it only comes about an inch apart, and then it doesn't want to go any further. I've done some review in the service manual, and watched some videos of...

Late 80s ez-loader trailer spring bushing replacement

Ok...so I ordered the kit. Bolts are too big (mine are 1/2"). So like a dope I returned it, thinking it was wrong. I still can't reach anyone at EZ-loader, despite several emails and phone calls. Anyway..... But I did find on their site that they recommend what appears to be the SAME bushings...

Late 80s ez-loader trailer spring bushing replacement

I have this trailer that came with a boat I purchased about 10 years ago. It's a C2 slipper/c-hook spring. I found a kit from ezloader 300-015973. I haven't taken anything apart yet, but I was just wondering if anyone has done this and is it really as it appears? The kit has two bolts, two steel...

    minnkota 765mx powerdrive

As a final piece of info, I had also asked minnkota support about this, and provided them the same information . I did get a response from them today as follows: "It appears the foot pedal is sending the appropriate voltages to the servo motor inside the steering housing but that servo motor is...

    minnkota 765mx powerdrive

Thx folks. Well as it turns out, I was convinced it was something in the motor drive. Based on what I had stated above, I then tore the whole darn thing apart and took all the insides out of the motor drive. Made sure the moto spun by hand(it did). So then I checked that all the gears were...

    minnkota 765mx powerdrive

Ok... I just did more measurements on this. After pressing the foot pedal about 20 times, now it doesn't make the prop spin when speed is on zero. Go figure. measuring the green and yellow wires, using foot pedal in L then R I get the following where these two wires connect with the M/F...

    minnkota 765mx powerdrive

I've taken this apart to do some checking with my meter. The yellow and green wires from the power cable where it enters the control box go right to the motor drive unit. THey don't go to the control board. I assume these are what makes this turn? When I do measurements here across these two...

Hello. I have this bow mount trolling motor. It had worked fine. It is older I believe and it came with this used boat I purchased about 9 years ago. The ser # is MK01469380 . I can't match up the number with anything Minnkota documents, but I suspect it's an 01'. regardless, it's older :)...
