    Best flooring options?

I would suggest doing it. I don't know if smoker craft did this, but lunds screw a metal plate on the under side of the floor where the pedestal seat bases go. This helps keep the seats from ripping through a rotten floor when the boat is in use, but that won't work forever. So even if you are...

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

I zoomed in on your picture. It looks like you didn't get deep enough. You should be down to the glass around the edge of the hole. You may need to use a smaller counter sink bit, so you can go deeper without getting past what the hardware will cover. Run the screws in slowly by hand, and keep...

    215 sundowner transom

Nope. The only way will be to have the motor pulled, get in there, and get messy. As for the mounts, also no. You'll have to cut the glass away from them, remove any remaining material, bed new ones in resin putty, and glass them to the hull and stringers. This makes them part of the...

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

Everyone mentioning the method of running the drill in reverse makes me think of a way you SHOULDN'T do it. Don't predrill, then try to countersink with a bigger bit. It will do the same as an oversized screw and grab the gel, lifting and cracking it.

    Best flooring options?

I would go with the vinyl. Pros. 1. It doesn't absorb water like carpet or foam. 2. It's easier to clean. 3. it won't stain as bad. Cons. 1. It shows imperfections in the floor worse than carpet or foam. 2. It's much harder to hide a bad cut when installing. 3. If water does get under it, it...

How do you screw into fiberglass/gelcoat without chipping?

Predrill the hole, then use a counter sink bit. What happens is the screw pulls on the gel coat, as well as pulling itself into the hole, and it cracks. The counter sink bits will cut the gel down so the screw doesn't grab it. Also, for any hardware like dash panels and speaker covers, use a...

    Boats from work.

Alright, "vacation" over. I did the last bit of glassing today. Could've been worse, but I missed some air when I was rolling it. My goggles were so covered in resin by the end, I could only vaguely make out shapes and colors.

    Building a fishing boat.

Is that including the extra weight from the deck and seat materials, full live well, and bigger engine? Of course, it would have to be weighed after the work is done for an accurate estimate, I'm just wondering if he might be reducing the capacity to the point where it's not even usable. I...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Those things are dangerous. Boss told me he once saw one come apart on a guy and cut open his neck. The air pressure was low, so he kept lifting it up to build speed and setting it back down.

Basically anywhere there is a sharp corner should be rounded. Fiberglass wants to be straight. If you could get an individual strand from some csm, bend it in an arch, it will spring back straight. Around a rounded corner, the resin will hold it down. If you round the corners with a grinder, it...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Nice. Don't worry about the bottom, just scuff it up and glass over. It's a bit late now, but you should have cut the bottom out so the drain hole won't have any wood around it. My fault, I forgot until I saw it in. You could go ahead and cut it out with a hole saw, maybe router the wood out a...

Looking good. Some comments... 1. It looks like you have it marked for this, but I thought I would say it anyway. You should round these corners a bit. Fiberglass hates corners and you'll regret it when you're glassing. Same with the edges of the wood. Anywhere that glass will need to wrap...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

What you have would probably be fine. We use the 40 grit roloc discs in our grinders, or the 5 inch discs. We rarely have to bust out the big grinders like that.

I always forget what the numbers correlate too. At work, 1708 is "byply", and the woven cloth is roving. Just what I learned with. So what I meant was 2 layers of csm and one roving. Yeah, fiberglass hates corners. Round them well, and finish by hand with some 80 grit. It will get any left over...
