04 Johnson 8hp 4stroke / fogging port?

I have a 04 Johnson 8hp 4stroke that needs to be fogged. I don't know my way around this engine like I do my others and I need to winterize. I know the port is probably hidden under a cover of some sort but I can't seem to find it.

Any tips?

u spray down the carb until it shuts down
then take plugs out and sprays down there
then i would rotate the flywheel 2 times and spray some more down the spark plug holes
put plugs back and u r ready
make sue u drain the carb also

Justintime, I also have a 4-stroke Johnson (suzie) and can't find the carbs on this fuel injected engine??

fuel injection does not have carbs

what HP

u should not spray anything down an intake on any fuel injected motors
u could mess up the sensors it has

check out brownspoint.com for the parts breakdown

best way is to add a fuel additive in the tank and run the motor like for 10mins, some want u to add it into the VST tank also

Justintime, I just didn't want Luke (top post) that you originally answered to do the wrong thing. Thanks for setting it straight.

So you're saying you can't/shouldn't fog a 4 stroke? I've shot fogging oil in the plug holes, rotated the prop, and treated the fuel. That's it?

I fog my 115 4stroke, does that mean been screwing it up?

"u spray down the carb until it shuts down"

"fuel injection does not have carbs"

So just because it's a 4 stroke, doesn't mean it's fuel injected? I'm still learning here.

Luke -- that's correct. While most of the larger four stroke engines today (40 HP and up) are fuel injected, the smaller four strokes are not. In fact most of the early four strokes regardless of size were carbureted. People also tend to confuse oil injection (on two strokes) with fuel injection and they are two entirely different systems.

Ok, so just to clear things up, what steps should I take to winterize my 4 stroke 115 and then my 4 stroke 8. Thanks.

The fuel and oiling in a four-stroke, unlike a two-stroke, are two entirely separate systems. The only reason you'd need to put lubrication (like fogging spray) in the top-end of a four stroke is if you intended to store it for a VERY long time like multiple years (it won't hurt anything though). The top-end lubrication will ensure the cylinders don't dry out and pit, and the rings won't stick over an extended period. This would hardly be an issue over a single winter though as long as you keep the plugs in their holes.

You're better off putting in fuel stabilizer, fresh oil and filter, and run it for about 10 minutes.

Don't forget to put fresh lube in the lower unit.

I should take special effort to stress the fresh oil part of that. Old oil can carry all kinds of acids, water, etc in suspension that it picked up as breakdown by-products or intrusions through breathers or exhaust gasses and the like. When allowed to sit that all can separate and leave bearings and bushings in direct contact with little pockets of corrosives.

Thanks wombat, looks like I've done all I can do for winterizing. Thanks.

Also, unlike a 2-stroke you can run a 4-stroke out of gas before storage to minimize any potential laquoring in the carbs or injectors.

My fuel has been treated and run through both engines. I should be good to go. Thanks again.

No problem.

Now, go have a beer at the Triangle for me up there in Juneau.
