Re: 100 to 0ne in OMC

I've been away a week or so and I sure missed a lot. I'm just catching up now. I read this post and was shocked!

I bought a 9.9HP Evinrude new in 1985 and have always run it at 100:1. I run the motor at 2 speeds... Full throttle and idle. Never had a problem. I always did the minor maintenance and winterization myself. Never had it in the shop for any major repairs. I use it about 10 days a year. This is the first time I have heard about this issue.

Should I switch to 50:1 or stick with 100:1?

By the way, back when I bought the motor I got a couple of cases of OMC oil real cheap. That's the only oil I ever used but I just ran out on my last outing.

Thanks

Use the ratio that the oil manufacturer recommends.

Like he said, follow the mfgs instructions unless you are worried about corrosion. It appears that isn't a problem with yours. I wouldn't start worrying now.

I run 50:1 in my 100:1 motor only to help reduce corrosion worries but I also live on the coast of Florida around saltwater and humidity is always 90-95%. The motor sits long enough between runs to make this an issue. This particular motor sits outdoors 365 days a year too.
