Check the temp of the engine with your hand, if you can't hold it for more than 2 seconds on it you be cookin your motor!

The tell-tale will let you know if the water pump is working, but not whether or not the water is passing through the cooling circuit of the engine.

Check your cylinder head gaskets for damage. Cause could be cooling circuit or VRO; what was the horn signal, constant or intermittent beeps or some of both?

Check your thermostats and the water deflectors.

Could be several things, water pump is bad, blockage in the system, thermostat not opening, running it with no water, water pickup blocked.

Correction, saw from your post it is peeing from the telltale, that means it's pumping water. Pull the thermostats and inspect them, what year motor is it?

Model # would help.

Re: 115 v4 vro

It's good standard shop practice to replace the cylinder head gaskets after an overheat. In the meantime, get some extra oil to the cylinders/pistons in case there has been water intrusion.

Also, visually check your ignition components for heat damage.

What is your model number?

Good, but you still have to fix the head gaskets or at least check the compression.

Ya as ezeke said, do comp test now that it's been overheated, at least you caught it in time, it's probably ok.
