I got two old packs from wreckers for $140 583037 and 583041. Both now have spark to all cylinders. Battery is charging so everything looks in place.

If it also turns out to be base I’ll get a new one. Hopefully not.

When the packs are supersede by 582260 I assumed better software?

Sounds like your powerpack was bad now all are now firing.
Its probably a change of supplier of components internally

Thanks for replying BOS.

Im yet to get one the water. But the dva and timing light are doing well.

So different superceeded pack or parts numbers don’t necessarily mean better?

Thanks guys, so superceded doesn’t necessarily mean better. Just who is currently internally supplying the parts perhaps?

All good just thought I’d ask.

Nope, sometimes they arent as good as old ones as everybody knows with the whims of manufacturing.
They all do exactly the same thing. Ive never had one do any different "tuning" like on a car computer chip to make a car go faster- thats not how these powerpacks function (these are rudimentary).
Those car ones are software based but these powerpacks are just capacitor ie hardware based.
Ive no idea about new outboard motors with their much more advanced EMM, they may be able to have a chip provide a functional improvement

Probably a multitude of supplies. AVX for the capacitors for example, PCB (printed circuit board) may be Jabil.
There are thousands of supplies of each these days so its a big guess.
Removing the epoxy to see who made what is a massive task so ive never found out who the suppliers on mine have being. The epoxy is one way of keeping the electronics dry and also making it a virtually impossible product to repair if you have electronic knowledge. I suspect when they go wrong its from capacitor burn out

If its case is blue plastic its junk......

Thanks Boss,

one has blue base (junk?) and the has a clear green case. This one you can see the capacitors and diodes.

The blue base one is a light blue. PN #583037
