Hey Gang,

New to the forum, just picked up a 15' V bottom with a 1984 Seahorse, 15hp.

The motor has a lean/rich mixture knob. The motor only likes to idle when the know is turned counterclockwise. (Sorry can't recall if that is lean or rich) Once the motor is under WOT it does not seem to matter where the mixture knob is turned? After the boat is at WOT, should the mixture knob be adjusted or just leave it alone?

Also on the steering stick side of the motor is small knob, that does not turn, but will push in and out. Ironically the sticker next to the knob indicates spinning the knob will increase something. Any ideas. I can post pictures if that will help.

Idle mixture knob has no effect on any operation but idle. When you are at idle you will know by sound how the motor is running, you need to find the sweet spot as I call it and leave it there. Running too lean will burn pistons, running rich will foul plugs. The knob may need to be more toward the rich side until it warms up. It isn't a drastic adjustment, more of an adjustment by 1/8th at a time.

The small knob is used to control trolling speed, if it pushes in and out 1 of 2 things has happened. It uses a brass snap ring to hold the knob in place, it's either missing or the knob plastic has broken and the snap ring has fallen inside in which case you could replace the knob by buying one, here is a pic to guide you.

What BK said.
The knob on the side doesn't do much of anything. I think its more of a speed governor then anything. The more its turned in it will limit how far you can open it up with the tiller throttle.

the knob on the side is the idle speed stop. all it does is stop the linkage when you turn the handle back to idle. so the engine does not stop.

the knobs on the front of the carb are adjustments, when finally fine tune, leave them alone.

you have a fixed high speed jet, and an adjustable low speed jet. good info here.
